How I stopped a binge

Proud of myself on this one.

I bought some kugel yesterday (sweet noodle dish). It's really good. It's a small portion (about the size of a bigger tv dinner) and there are 8 servings in it. The whole thing is about 1300 calories. Anyway, I ate 1/3 yesterday, and another 1/3 for breakfast, and felt a binge attack coming... I went to the kitchen in the intent of finishing it (that would be a 800 calorie breakfast, quite a bit more than I usually eat), then I thought... 'but will it taste as good?'. And that stopped me. I realized I just had a sizable portion of it, so it just wouldn't taste as good anymore, and I'd be better off saving the rest for breakfast tomorrow.

So, remember that... it won't taste as good the second time, because you've already had some. Save it for the next day, when it will be good as new again.

    Congrats! :flowerforyou:

I wanted to go full force into a bag of chips yesterday but I stopped myself by reminding myself..
    A. (sadly) they didn't fit my calories that day.
    B. I wouldn't stop at just 1 chip, or 5, 10, 20, etc.
    C. I would eat too many, tell myself "crap you blew it" go big, or go home i.e eat some more because I already "messed up."
    D. I didn't want to fall victim to the "ef it" moment.

Plus you're right, when you binge a food it doesn't end up being all that good in the end.

I did not eat the chips. I drank 2 huge classes of water, chewed some gum, the urge eventually went away. That's HUGE for me.

    Congratulations.

Sometimes I can't stop the urge to go ahead and eat the darn thing. My hardest time is at night right before bed. I just need to stay out of the kitchen. Hopefully I will get there soon. Again, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!

    Congrats.

I really think that's what makes MFP work for me, my doctor (who recommended it), and for many people. Having that concrete, tangible number looking you in the face multiple times a day. Like your comment said, that breakfast would have been 800 calories. Knowing how much that would eff your day really makes you pause and think about it.

If people didn't have that number, it would just be 'a bigger breakfast' that wouldn't have been accounted for in later meals.
