  • I discovered I might have PCOS after having trouble breastfeeding my daughter. I haven't been diagnosed, but it's good to know that if I am there is a community here with lots of knowledge.

    Fellow PCOSer here feel free to add me. I also have no thyroid and a heart condition. I find that sticking to complex carbs and keeping the sugar low really helps but the biggest thing is exercise.

    My advice is to make sure you stay at or under your carb goals. Since PCOS causes us to have insulin resistance, going over our carb intake goal can cause us to gain weight because our bodies don't know what to do with it. It has helped me tremendously to not go over.

    Me! PCOS, no cysts, but insulin resistance, vitamin D deficiency, hypothyroism, and no ovulation. On metformin and soon-to-be on clomid as well. ;) My doctor was very proud of the 22lbs I lost since I last saw him mid February. Changed my diet a bit (increase protein, cut down sugar, whole grain carbs only/mostly) and exercise more often.
  • Hi! I am a fellow PCOSer. I lost quite a bit of weight in the past on the SparkPeople site, but got lazy about tracking and have regained some. I am back to lose it again, though thankfully I am still down a lot from my all time high!
  • I have pcos and endometriosis, as well. I've had 13 surgeries in total. The last was a partial hysterectomy. That's made a world of difference for me. I highly recommend it, if it becomes an option to you!

    I've lost 60+ lbs over the last few years and have gone from a size 18 (215 lbs) to a 6 (150 lbs). I got lazy over this past winter and am now back up to about 165. As soon as my injury from the Spartan race, a few weeks back, heals, I'll be hitting it hard again to get back to where I feel my best.

    I highly recommend lifting heavy. It will change your entire body composition, and as a benefit of pcos (there are so few!), we are able to make changes in body comp quicker than most women due to higher amounts of testosterone!

    I was going to say the same thing. I find that gaining muscle is I can't say easier, but FAST! due to the increased testosterone. I formerly lost 55 pounds doing all cardio on metformin and gained it all back, 60 pounds in 4 years. This time I'm off metformin but have the added hypothyroid. I feel like my PCOS is finally under control just as I start to go through another change in my life. Just doesn't seem fair, but it is what it is.

    I also have PCOS and a bad thyroid. I started low carb diet at the recommendation of my doctor and for the first time in 15 years of trying to lose weight, I'm actually seeing progress. Welcome to MFP!

    Hi, I'm new to this whole myfitnesspal community and I was looking to make some fitness pal friends as I could really use the support. I have PCOS and was diagnosed in 2011. I had a son in 2012 :) because I lost 60lbs and I'm under 25. After having a child, plus PCOS, plus the stress of university = it is extremely difficult to lose weight! I fluctuate btwn 144 and 150 but really want to get down to 125. I'm having a hard time controlling cravings!!!!

    Heyyy! I'm 24 & was diagnosed with PCOS few years ago but have definitely suffered with it since my early teens, after starting puberty quite young. I'm still struggling to manage my symptoms now & I'm the heaviest I've ever been.. would love to talk to some fellow PCOS-sufferers who understands exactly what it's like to have this life-affecting condition!!!

    Hey, I'm 27 and have PCOS too. I was diagnosed about 4years ago. I've tried several diets to get my weight down, but it always comes back. I've been trying to have a baby for about 6 years and have had no luck. I'm also taking 1500 mg of Metiformin with no progress, hopeful that if I do the weight lose thing again it will finally be my time. I just got received my package from Amazon today for the SlimQuick Pure. I need some fitness friends too. Please feel free to add me.

    Feel free to add me as well. I have PCOS, gastroparesis, and a whole assortment of other issues. I've been able to mange my health with a few things. I didn't see progress for the longest time, but this past year figured some things out to make that change. Happy to share my story via personal message (just because it's very detailed and shares a lot of my health struggles). Happy to have support and support others as well!

    So I apparently already posted. Obviously, I like support of people who have similiar issues. Makes me feel like I'm not alone!!!!

    Another PCOS girl here and battling it for most of my adult years without understanding of it.

    I am glad to see there are others able to be supportive and also a group too , I need to look into that!

    It's not something that is easy and so many who don't suffer through it don't know the challenge of how it can hinder weight loss and the other difficulties. Just stay committed and take each day at a time. Try changing what you eat and different types of foods and find what works for you best! You aren't alone.

    I started my menstrual cycle when i was 11 and by the time i was 12 I knew i was different. My cycles were irregular, i had darkened areas on certain parts of my body, and not to mention the facial hair that quickly developed. I felt as though I had this condition since I was 12 all because of a progam I seen on DiscoveryHealth but I didnt receive confirmation until now at the age of 23. I just recently started Metformin and began an active fitness regiment. I wish you all best wishes and luck because it truly takes a strong woman to deal with a self-esteem affecting condition like this. My heart especially goes out to those of you who started experiencing PCOS at young ages like I did because the ignorance of other children was cruel beyond imagintion

    I have PCOS and have had very unpleasant side effects for about 10 years. I have let it control me since it makes me feel so out of control. I have recently decided enough was enough and have been maintaining a consistent exercise regime (mainly just walking) and cut out simple carbs. It is definitely working for me. I have an open diary and like interacting with my friends. Anyone should feel free to send me a friend request.

    I'm yet another, also borderline hypothyroid. I'm trying a 40%carb/30%fat/30%protein macro balance and have cut ~75% of grains from my diet. It's too early to say if it's helping me lose weight, but after a couple weeks, I can definitely tell I feel much better and am hungry less frequently.

    Just had to say I love all the PCOS supprt on here! I think its time to change from cardio to weights, I do a bit of both but more cardio. Love reading what works for others suffering from PCOS too. Now to work on this hirtuism~ugh.

    I have PCOS. I think I have been using it as an excuse for my weight gain for so long. But no disease can warrant someone being THIS fat, I think. (Just speaking for me personally.) I have found that a lower carb diet like Keto works really well for keeping energy levels up, but it would hurt my stomach, so now I just get more carbs from veggies and whole grains.

    I have PCOS, prediabetes and was super obese. When I lost my first 50 pounds my period starting coming like clockwork every single month when before, it only did once every 3-4 months. My blood sugar is borderline normal now.

    I have also stumbled across this study which basically says flaxseed may help lower testosterone levels associated with some PCOS complications very significantly, so I'm trying it out for 3 or so months to see if it works for me.

    Granted, it's not the best study (very low sample size) but there is no harm in trying and seeing if it works for me.

I haven't been diagnosed with PCOS (yet) but I'll be seeing a specialist soon and hopefully get a diagnoses and start meds, because i do have most of the symptoms of PCOS and they have all come on within the past 2 years, and I am VERY discouraged about all of it. I've gained 30 lbs in the past 7-8 months despite working out over an hour a day and eating generally healthy (other than the sweet tooth). This time around I've found it extremely hard to lose any weight, even upping my exercise, taking supplements, and eating high protein hasn't done anything and haven't lose a single pound. In fact, I keep gaining. I haven't had a cycle in over 2 years which really worries me because in the future I really do want to have kids (I'm 30 now, with no kids) and I'm scared that if i don't get my hormones straightened out I won't ever become fertile. Has anyone been able to lose weight with PCOS WITHOUT being on metformin? If so, what did you have to do diet wise, and did any supplements help?

    It sounds like I may have to go strictly low carb, which is discouraging because i pretty much only enjoy foods that tend to be high carb (breads, cereals, oatmeal, fruit, pretzels, etc) and I don't care for meat and definitely don't like eggs. I do like veggies but I just think it would be a huge struggle to stick to eating only chicken and salad everyday for all my meals. Not to mention I have bad insomnia and can't seem to sleep without eating carbs before bedtime. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated! :)

    I'm 26yr old with PCOS. I was diagnosed in 2005. I was on here before but after lack of results I gave up. I have come back in an attempt to loose the weight again. It's frustrating to know that you are working twice as hard as other people and not seeing results. I've been stuck at the same weight for the last 3 weeks now. It is even more frustrating to know I have 100plus lbs to loose. I walk daily and started doing the Jillian Micheals beginner dvd. Here is to hoping I stay motivating this time around.
