motivation or insanity?

So the other night I was pulling out my summer clothes to pack up, but I kept thinking "why am I keeping these". I wondered if I should just go ahead and donate them. would this be motivating or insane? I'm not sure. I'm 4 weeks into "healthier living" and have dropped 11 pounds, and have 69 more to go. I don't see an end in site, and I know that I can lose the weight. Part of me wants to ditch the clothes as a motivator, because if I don't have my old summer clothes then I HAVE to lose the weight.
For those of you that are on the weight loss journey, and are changing to fall clothes, have you packed away your summer clothes, or are you just getting rid of them?

Because you are only four weeks in I would make this decision based partly on your past. If you have started and stopped several times in your life you may want to keep your clothes. If you are like I was and super determined that you are done with being overweight no matter what then ditch them! I have gotten rid of all the clothes I am to small for now. One part of me hated to do so because I spent hard earned money on them but the other part of me knows I am investing in my mental, physical and spiritual health by letting them go. I haven't really used it as a motivator-- like now I have to lose weight I don't have any clothes to wear... It is so much more than that. It is freeing to be rid of them. Good luck!0

I understand your dilemma! I finally had to say enough was enough! When I began to lose the weight, and went from one size to the next, I cleaned out my closet and donated the clothes that were too big. I needed a way to say, "There is no going back!". That was the only way for me to get the motivation going. I had 5 different sizes of pants, now I am only down to one.
You just have to think about what is going to work for you.
I wish you luck in your journey.0 -
GET RID OF THEM! I think that by doing so it is a physical acknowledgment that you are serious this time. Keeping them just makes it okay in your mind to go back and this time it's not OK. You've already started to make that change for yourself. 10lbs lost = down one size, so they don't fit you now. Reward yourself next summer by purchasing a new wardrobe for all your hard work as a long term goal. I say "DON"T LOOK BACK!!" I think when you look back, you'll surprise yourself. Keep in touch, let us know what you decided.0

GET THEM GONE ASAP!!!!!! It will do two very powerful things for you 1-concrete in your head this for real and you are not going back to that old size. Nothing more motivating than when your pants get a little tight and realizing, I don't have anything to fall back to, gotta get serious! 2-Make you feel good that you can donate them to someone who could be in need. Instead of goodwill, try a crisis ministries or a homeless shelter they are always in need. It feels good to help others on your journey....pay it forward!0

Thanks all. I'm getting rid of them tonight! I know i'm serious this time, and it will be a good motivator to think that they aren't there, and I don't want to buy new clothes in the same size. I KNOW I can do this. Enough is enough. I just wish I hadn't let my last pregnancy stall my motivation (almost 3 years ago)!0
