How much can I lose in a month?

I keep seeing videos and posts about losing 20 pounds in a month and I'm really waning to get my weight down in a quick but healthy manner. I'm 21 and I weigh 211 which is obese for my height of 5'5 so is 20 pounds in a month possible since I do have around 70 pounds total to lose to get to a good weight? Has anyone successfully done it and if so how?

Lots of people have lost lots of weight in various ways. I would recommend taking the slow but sure approach, since it's not a race or anything. Reasonable calorie deficit for you, exercise, and patience.
Those videos are trying to get you to buy something, nothing more.0 -
1- 2 lbs a week max - so in a month maybe 8 lbs. Or you know cut off a limb and you'll lose more.0

On the Biggest Loser they can probably lose weight that quickly, but look at what they have to put their body through. And do most of them keep it up outside the Ranch when they're eliminated? No. Do most of them keep the weight off even if they win? No. Those quick-fixes advertised aren't designed for you to keep it off, they're designed for you to keep buying their product over and over to keep losing the same 20lbs.
It's tempting to think 'okay I'll spend a month losing 20lbs, then it'll kick start my healthy eating & exercise lifestyle afterwards', but those diets are designed to have you put weight back on as soon as you eat food and drink liquids again, so you'll just end up yo-yo dieting. So don't wait a month, and start controlling portions and moving more right now.0 -

Lol. But if you cut off a limb, your BMR goes down, and then it's even harder to lose weight
More seriously, to lose 20 pounds per month you'd need a calorie deficit of 2,333 per day. So you're either starving yourself or running 12 miles per day. Neither is sustainable, and neither will lead towards long-term healthy habits.
Dieting sucks. Instead, adopt sustainable, healthy habits now that lead to permanent fitness.0 -
Since you have quite a bit to lose, you could probably do 10 pounds in a month safely. But don't rush it. Remember the tortoise - slow and steady wins the race! (Cheesy, I know.)0

Since you are starting, you could probably lose 10lbs, maybe more in the first couple of weeks but that will just be water weight. Going slow is the best way to go, seriously.0

If you are obese you will most likely lose a bit faster for the first week or 2. Then it will slow down to 1-2 pounds per week. Please do not starve yourself . You will probably lose close to 10 pounds if you do it right the first month but then it will slow down. Be patient0

I'm in the same boat... I am horrendous at sticking to my goals because I am so impatient. If I don't see losing within a week I seem to just give up..
I'm going to try a crash diet for 30 days, eating only healthy things, and NOT going over my calorie goals. As well as trying to go for a decent sized walk with the dog every day.
If I see progress I will be much more inclined to stick with things!0
