mechanical vs digital food scales

I've been putting off buying a scale because there is just so much variation I never know which one to choose ( and I thought the cups were just fine).
what do you look for when buying one? are digital scales better than mechanical ones? if a scale weighs up to 500g does that mean
it's more accurate than the one that weighs up to 5kg?

I'd go digital because it is easier to read. Must have the tare feature.
if it weighs up to 500g that's the most you can weigh on it. If you will be weighing stuff that is more than 500g than you'd need a scale that handles more. Both would be accurate up to their max amount.0 -
thank you, getting one first thing tomorrow.0

Digital is definitely the way to go, but you will want one that goes higher than 500 grams - that's barely over a pound. Just look for a digital food scale - you don't need one that goes to tenth of a gram or anything, but you do want one that goes fairly high. I think the 5kg one is probably pretty close to what I have.0
