Deficit Question

I hope this isn't a stupid question...
I've read that in order to lose one pound per week, one must burn 3,500 calories more than they consume- ideally, having a 500 calorie deficit everyday. Let's say someone inputs that they would like to lose 1lb a week; does mfp factor the 500 calorie deficit in the amount of max calories they can eat, or does one need to make sure that they eat 500 calories less than the calorie number that shows up?
Thanks

MFP sets your calories based on what you want to lose per week. You just consume what it tells you.0

Yep. Your net calorie goal is what you'll need to eat to reach your goal. I had the same question when I first started.0

To add to what has already been said, you need to eat a portion of your exercise calories back, because exercise is not directly figured in.0
