    use this: http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/

I would suggest a 10% deficit because you're so close to your goal weight.

How many caloric deficit is necessary to lose 15 pounds you mean? Well 15 times 3,500 so 52,500 calories.

That means if your calorie intake is lower than the amount you require for your day whatever that deficit is adds up and when it adds up over time to 52,500 you will have lost 15 pounds of fat.

If you are asking how many calories you should be eating to lose 15 pounds well a 500 calorie daily deficit is a good place to start.

it's telling me here to eat 2,090 calories, i'll try that and see what happens, or is that too much?

sorry new to all this calorie counting.

I'm 6' tall 180 pounds just trying to lose 20 pounds and I'm eating about 2100 calories a day and losing a little over a pound a week so yeah man that sounds about right to me.

Depends on your activity level too of course, if you are working out or not.

Is that what MFP set you at? That seems like it could be reasonable given your height and weight. If you set your MFP calorie goal to lose weight at a half pound per week (as you probably should) it will give you a seemingly high number. However, it will still be a deficit, thus you will still lose weight.

Ok, that's reasonable. Just be sure you're measuring your food and calorie burns correctly. Read these threads for reference:

Soda isn't inherently bad, it's just empty calories for the most part. I switched to coke zero, it's by far the best tasting diet drink I've ever had. If you wish to make the transition to diet sodas, that's the one I would suggest. I'm not even a coke fan, either.

Hey man thats a good thing really. Soda is something you can cut out pretty easily and it will make a big difference in your calories which will make your goal pretty easy to hit I think. Just takes some diligence, tracking what you eat...hitting that 2100 day in day out and months down the line you will see some definite improvement.

Been my experience anyways. Takes time though, don't be expecting any overnight changes.

Bet both of them have them. Just get a digital one is my only recommendation, don't know a thing about brand or anything. Think I just got mine at a local supermarket.

anywhere you like, brand is not so important, but
I would sugest getting a digital one that weighs in grams and has a tare/zero function, I also like to have one that does negatives from zero so i can put the bottle of oil on it tare it, then put it back on and it tells me -4 so i know i've used 4g of oil

I also like to have and easy clean flat surface that makes it easy to use any type of container

I got mine from Meijer for about $19. It's Eat Smart brand and it's really good. I use it for freaking EVERYTHING!

and beware the accuracy (or lack thereof) of entries in the database, check everything against the package that you have and if in doubt use the entries without * as they are USDA based

It's a good idea to start lifting while in the process. You don't have long to go, so I would bet that lifting would help your body become more firm as it is right now and just get better as you lose.

I'm not saying I am the model of proper diet or anything but my diary is open and like I said on most days I'm eating something close to 2100 a day if you want to check out what that looks like.

another thing, how important is the carbs, protein, fat % to losing weight...does it matter

is hitting my target calorie goal the only thing i should be concerned with.

Hitting calorie target will cause you to lose weight, macros will promote overall health. It is important for you to get enough dietary fat, which most people neglect because of the name. Eating enough protein and lifting weights will help your body maintain its lean body mass while losing fat.
  • Thanks! Any suggestions on Wats the latest time i should eat?

    weight loss <> calories
health <> nutrition (macro and micro nutrients)

avoiding muscle loss during weight loss <> meeting minimum protein and fat intakes

there is no hard and fast time based cut off this is a known diet *myth*, it can work for some people, as it might encourage them not to snack unnecessarily after meals

I sleep badly if I eat too late (for me), many others don't and can eat at any time and sleep hapily

Like others have said, calorie deficit for weight loss...macro balance and micros for health.

All I can say is if you want to keep your muscle around while you are losing weight its a good idea to include a little weight lifting in your routinue and get about 1 gram of protein per pound of lean mass (how much you would weigh with zero fat). If you don't know your percent bodyfat then you don't know your lean mass but you could probably guess at it and assume 140 maybe. So that would be 140 grams of protein a day.

For the fat as was mentioned you need fat in your diet so wouldn't go below 20% of your calories from fats (fat is 9 calories per gram, carbs are 4 cal per gram, protein is 4 cal per gram).

The rest you just fill in with carbs. Carbs are your energy source. If you cut carbs drastically you will likely feel tired and find it hard to complete any workouts.

Personally my macros are set at around 40/40/20 (protein/carb/fat). That means 40% of my calories come from protein (about 200g) 40% from carbs (about 200g) and 20% from fats (about 45g).

Really though you just got to figure out what works for you to hit your calorie deficit and still be comfortable with what you are eating. Me right now, I don't have issues with hunger and I feel pretty happy with my food. Don't need to be a nazi about it.
