Food Escape Plan: Ditch the Regret!

While I loathe to say that I "regret" eating any particular food and even more to demonize any particular ingredient (ie sugar, carbs, etc), I think we all look at that empty wrapper, container, or plate once in a while and start self-flagellating with some expletive-filled version of: "Damn, that wasn't a great decision."

But saying you just won't eat a certain food or an amount of food again is generally not successful. When it comes to any behavior we don't wish to repeat, sometimes it can be helpful to plan ahead. Here's two of my food escape plans:

Problem: Indian lunch buffet (convenient, affordable, yummy)
Escape Plan: 1) No impulsive Indian buffet. If I MUST go for a sit down meal right now, get sushi instead. 2) If I think of it early and decide for sure I want Indian, I have to do a workout BEFORE I go...which either causes me to eat less when I go or decide not to go after working so hard!

Problem: York Peppermint Patties or any chocolate & mint food.
Escape Plan: Promise myself to make a big vegan mint chocolate shake at home. (Almond milk, frozen bananas, stevia, unsweetened cocoa powder, cacao nibs, vanilla and mint extract.) By the time I get home I'm either over the craving or I have a ~200 calorie, nutrient packed, no-regrets-to-be-seen shake.

What are some of your Escape Plans? (Don't have one? Make one here!)

Fast food, too much food and Blizzards: destroy the calorie bank on Wednesdays and Fridays. This wasn't really planned, it just laid out that way. I wanted to clean up each day of the week, but after cleaning up weekends to the point I wasn't eating too much, I'm now able to hit my 1/2 lb per week goal consistently. So it's like, hey, free food.

Sweets and night snacking: I make a single serving cupcake from scratch, drink with green tea

Treats at work: if it's cake or a celebration day meal I'll eat as much as I want. Otherwise I'm usually not tempted beyond a single serving or less.
