Not eating past 8 pm

If I'm awake, I'm eating. I have a banana right before bed because I hate waking up hungry. I lost weight doing this, and I've maintained. Not eating after a certain time gives zero benefit and is Dr. Oz malarkey.
OP never said anything about eating at a certain time chemically defying the body's handling of calories. The post was solely about tactics to control her own eating behavior, i.e., breaking her habit of overeating by late night snacking. Someone who eats a banana every night before bed obviously doesn't need to put thought into such tactics, but that doesn't mean a lot of other people haven't created game plans like this.0 -

Meal time and weight loss are not related. When we eat is a personal preference and we all have to do what works for us. I don't start eating until 2 pm and usually have the big meal of the day between 8-9 pm and go to bed around midnight. It works for me....and it seems to work well.

Yes, but meal time and overeating may be related - for most people who overeat they probably are. The OP's point was that meal time and overeating are related, so she was asking about tactics to help her change her habits.0 -
Thanks everyone! Definitely some helpful tips. I know it's all about calories in/calories out, just looking for a way to stop myself from putting too many calories in in the evening lol It's definitely a mindless eating in front of the TV thing. I've been planning yoga classes around 8 to give me something else to do, but on nights when that's not doable I'm just going to set the strict rule of it's past 8, you can't eat anything else. Not a permanent solution, but hopefully it will help me to change my habits.0

My tactic is to eat a banana. It's filling. That's my response, and I'm deeply sorry you didn't care for it.0 -

I take yoga some evenings. My yoga is Vinayasa Flow. I'm always starving when I get back from the studio. This is jus' a note.
Like I said before every persons body reacts differently. Yours may not be acting same as mine after late Yoga class.0 -
One of my best tips is to arrange things as much as possible so you don't have to rely on willpower. Because that can break easily.
I like to eat in the evenings, so I structure my day so that I eat something like a third to a half of my calories after 10 PM. That's when the house is quiet, and I can enjoy eating without having to worry about wolfing down food between meetings or before flying out the door. It feels pretty sweet to have 1000 calories left 2 hours before bedtime.0 -
On workout days, I eat dinner between 9-10:30 pm... and then sometimes follow up with a snack and even a 3 oz piece of flourless chocolate cake - I average over 2000 calories everyday. I'm doing Stronglifts so I have a hard time saying "no" to myself after squats and barbell rows. In the past 4 months, I went down 25 pounds (171 now) and I have hypothyroidism. I do minimal cardio, too - 5 minutes of warm-up and swimming once in a while but I stay active throughout the day, however. Everyone is different and I'm glad that my approach easily fits into my lifestyle.0

I've done it. And yeah, I am in the same boat.
I can be good all day. But after around 9pm for me, suddenly its SNACK ON. I personally know I have little to no self control beyond that time. If I allow for one snack, it can and does turn into 600+ calories of various items.
Brushing my teeth and calling it a nutritional day keeps me from doing that.0 -
I prefer not eating after 8 or 9 PM if I can help it, it makes me feel really good and energized in the morning. I feel lethargic and sleepy in the morning if I eat or drink past 9PM.0

I don't even get home from work until 8 or 8:30 ....... dinner is usually late ...... but I can still manage to snack until bedtime if I'm not careful
Best of luck with whatever plan works for you !0 -
Allow yourself more calories at the end of the day and eat something after 8pm. It doesn't matter when you eat your calories, only the sum total of them matter in terms of weight loss.0

I eat when I want. I don't have any kind of regular hours for sleep. The time I fall asleep is unbelievably random.0

Hey everyone,
I'm having a hard time resisting the urge to snack in the evenings. I'm so good all day and then I end up blowing it at night after dinner when I seem to want to eat EVERYTHING. I've been thinking about not allowing myself to eat anything after 8 pm. Teeth brushed, nothing else in my mouth. Has anyone on here done this before? Did you find it helped?
For me, I need to have something at bedtime as I don't sleep if I am hungry. But we do eat a little later, say 7:30, then I'll have a cup of hot skim with either a bit of honey or small amount of chocolate ovaltine. That works for me, but everyone is different. But I find it help me to do what others have suggested... I close my food log right after dinner with my bedtime snack added. That way if I am tempted to snack, I know I'll have to go in and open up my daily food log again. That gives me a reminder to stop.0 -
I do not eat after 7:30 and I find it helps me tremendously. That is the time I seem to want to emotional eat the most and if I start I will not stop. So I brush up for the night and that's that. It really seems to help me sleep better too.0

I generally don't ... only cause it gives my body time to burn off that fat overnight due to the lack of available food.
Besides in the morning .. I am ready for breakfast after not eating for 12 hours and ready to kick start a productive day.0
