Calorie Calculator

How do you guys calculate the calories you are supposed to eat per day in order to lose weight?

I created my own calorie calculator software based on the updated BMR formula. I'm thinking of sharing it here with you guys. But I'm curious to know how do you calculate your own.

EDIT: There's a calorie calculator here that I am sure many of you use...

I use the one on this site and I have to say it's pretty accurate. It's not an exact science with all the macros but the numbers it gave me did get me down to my goal weight. I lost 5 lbs per month just like it said I would.

A lot of people just enter their stats here, activity level and desired weekly weight loss goals in and MFP does it for you.

Others use TDEE, getting those numbers from various sites such as scooby or IIFYM or personal data...

I use my personal data to calculate my TDEE.

What I do and what I recommend to people is to eat at a calorie level that allows you to drop 1-2 lbs/week. This assumes an average calorie burn from you getting in all of your workouts. This will be different for everyone, so you'll have to do some trial and error to figure it out. I'd start ~2200 cal/day. Hit this goal, along with your macros and getting in your workouts, for a week. If you lose 1-2 lbs, you're good to go. If you lose too much, increase your intake and repeat. If you don't lose enough, reduce your intake a bit and repeat. After a few weeks, you'll figure out what works for you in your situation.
