Cardio that burns the most calories?

Hi, I'm 18 and in college and I'm just starting to exercise. I don't really know much about the machines at the gym at my school, but they can only be used for 30 minutes. Everyday I have been using a machine called a precor, and I burn 300 calories in 30 minutes. Are there other machines that will burn more calories than this in a half hour, like the stair stepper or something else? Thanks!

Nice job starting to exercise. I'm not exactly sure of the answer because it depends on your effort to a certain extent. However, I just wanted to chime in and say that you should be careful about believing the calorie count on the machines. It's almost always quite high.0

I would not trust the machines either. Running is a good one. *Typically* it burns about 100 calories per mile.0

Rowing machine would be the fastest calorie burner for me over a short time period but really you should be targeting your exercise towards your fitness goals rather than just calorie burning.
There's some good tutorials on the Concept2 website and also a calorie calculator (the calorie count displayed on the Concept2 is based on an assumed weight of 175lbs).
Really if you can exert yourself fully then any cardio machine at the right speed/intensity/resistance will allow you to hit your peak output. So if you are a runner - run, if you are a cyclist - cycle.0 -
Precor is a brand, I thinking you were using either an Arc Trainer or Elliptical0

I agree with the person above, it really just depends on your fitness level and what is more challenging for you. When I first starting doing elliptical at the gym, I would burn almost 400 calories in 30-35 minutes because I wasn't used to it and it was difficult, but now if I don't keep increasing my resistance then I will barely burn 400 calories in an hour. My advice is to try a bunch of different machines and keep switching it up. In my opinion, you can get used to anything so the important part is to keep pushing and challenging yourself. Also, like she said, if you really want the *most* accurate calorie count, I would invest in an HRM because the machines are always off. Hope this helped! Good luck!0

HIIT training or jump rope are my two personal preferences.
And if I must- I get on the stair master.0 -
the cardio that burns the most calories is not on a machine.
although the rowing machine is good, and actually running on a treadmill would be good to
high intensity cardio burns the most calories. if you went faster on your machine, or slightly upped the resistance and kept the same pace, you can burn more in your 30 min(but you knew that)
if you like to dance you would probably like jump rope and you learn skill rather then just break a sweat. you pick it up quicker then you might think too0 -
I have found that cycling burns the most for me, but it may be down to the individual to figure out what works best for them. Buy a HRM and start trying all the different cardio that you like and see how they compare.0

The calories burned on the machine are going to be inaccurate 99% of the time. Invest in a heart rate monitor and see for yourself how many calories you burn doing different activities.0

Hill sprint repeats will be at the top of the list. Also the only cardio proven to build muscle if eating at a surplus.
Running outside....calorie burns= weight(lb) * miles * .63
Treadmill slight lower since its less work.
HRM is a more than adequate guesstimate of what you burn during steady state of cardio, although most people don't realize that they give false reading depending on extreme temperatures. Still a good way to guess though.0 -

Get a HRM and jump on a new treadmill after 30min of exercising.0
