So with my lifestyle, which I'm ashamed to admit includes barely any time for exercise, allows me 1280 calories per day. How important is it that I eat that many calories per day? What happens if I go below it?

Speaking from experience - I put alot of weight ON doing that. Your body will hold onto everything because it does not get enough nourishment. A walk during a break or lunch would do you good too! No shame on MFP - we are all in this together :-)0

You should not go below 1200 .. if your body does not get enough food to make it work each day, or goes long periods of time without any food, your body could go into starvation mode, meaning it will start storing your food instead of burning it. The best thing to do is to eat 1200 calories a day and still get in 30 minutes of exercise.. the exercise will help boost your metabolism.0
