Has anyone lost weight after trying and failing?

I am so close to giving up hope that I will ever lose weight. I feel like I've tried so many times, and every time I fail. I am always left with a sinking feeling of worthlessness and hopelessness.
I want to know if anyone has gone through this, if anyone has lost weight, after nearly giving up from failure? I've tried every motivational thing I can think of. I remember joining this site and thinking "I can do it!" and i failed at that too. I don't know how to fix this.

It's all mindset! If you think you might fail, then you will. Just keep at it, make a big deal out of little achievements, and remember how great you feel! I keep my workout gear within eyesight of my bed all ready to go, leave MFP open on my computer so I remember to track everything, etc. I have lost and gained numerous times, mostly because of major life changes and all sorts of excuses I can make. Don't beat yourself up about the past because you can't fix that, and move forward with the intentions to be healthier and happier!

What has caused you to "fail" in the past?

Is it that you give up? If so, what goes through your head to make you decide to give up? Do you get bored? Try setting new goals for yourself and look forward to non-scale victories. Do you get tempted? Don't let a mistake here and there keep you from picking yourself up and recommitting the next day.

Is it that you do everything "perfectly" and still don't see results? Maybe re-think how you're measuring success and whether you are setting realistic expectations. If you really feel like you're doing everything right, maybe see an in-person nutritionist and see if they can help you evaluate what might be going wrong.

Hi! My name is Kim and I can relate to your story. My weight loss journey began two years ago. I was at my heaviest (225) and things were not good. I couldn't keep up with my kids, I was tired all the time, and my doctor told me that my cholesterol was on the rise! I decided something needed to change. I started walking, and eventually doing some weight training. I am down over 65 pounds! I feel so much better, and I love supporting and encouraging people to do the same. I would be happy to be an accountability partner with you. I still have some weight to lose, so we can work at it together! Getting your nutrition under control is a big key to losing weight. I can share what has worked for me if you are interested. If you work hard, I know you can reach your goal! So what do ya say? Are you in? If so, add me as a buddy!

Only about a dozen times. Last year this time after losing more than 70 pounds, I got lazy. Weighing in every day was a hassle, logging my food was boring, weighing and measuring everything was inconvenient and hey, I know how to eat now. I don't need to do any of that. Flash forward to January, 2014. I stepped on a scale for the first time in months and was up almost 20lbs. Now I'm back to it. I exercise six days a week and log EVERYTHING.

There are certainly days when I don't want to do all of this. But the alternative is that I'm fat, unhealthy and unhappy. You have to decide. This is your life. Are you ready to change or not? If it's not that's ok too, just recognize that and stop torturing yourself. Just like an alcoholic, many of us struggle not even one day at a time but each meal, each bite.

Is this your time? If it is we are here to help.

I have been fat most of my teens and all of my adult life. I have tried, failed and tried again more times than I remember. Each time I have failed I have put on more than I lost and over the years my weight has crept up and up until I reached 214.8lb.

I agree that it is all in the mind, I used to be very restrictive and not eat or drink anything deemed unhealthy because that is what I thought I had to do to lose weight. I would lose weight very quickly and get bored with what I was eating.

This time, it's different. I have been a member of MFP since 30th Dec and I have suppassed my previous attempts by by months. I am lighter than I have been in years and I am more relaxed about food than I have ever been.

My advise to you is this: (use what you want and disregard the rest)
    1. Set yourself mini goals. I have 3 different goals and focusing on small losses makes it less daunting. First I divided by goal into 4, I also aim for every 14lb lost and percentage of body weight lost.
    2. Write down all the reasons you want to lose weight. No matter how personal, only you need to see them and sometime is good to read them to remind you when you get down.
    3. Record nsv, these are great motivation because even if the scales stop other things don't.
    4. Don't stress about things, 1 "bad" day won't make you fat the same as 1 "good" day won't make you skinny.
    5. Track measurements and take selfies. These record progress better than the scales.

even the best of us have hard days. it could be the runner whose pace has gotten worse despite trying to get faster, or the weight lifter that hasn't progressed on his lift, or a person who hasn't dropped a pound regardless of how strict they are with their diet.

learn from it. move on. grow.

Yes, most of us have been where you are now and many of us continue to struggle. There is no failure short of just giving up. As long as you are trying, you are successful. Do the right things and the weight loss will come. If you're not getting the weight loss you want, look at whether or not you are counting accurately, etc. There has to be a valid reason. Do the correct things and you will get the results.

God bless you and good luck.

This is my fourth try on myfitnesspal. The other times I only tried for a few days. I don't really know what is different this time except I just kept going. Just do the best you can. Maybe try 1lb per week at first and if that is too hard switch it to 1/2 lb a week. Try to find something that works for you. Change things as you go if they don't work out. Some quotes that help are "time willl pass anyway" and "choose your hard" as losing weight is hard, but so is being fat and embarrassed and uncomfortable.
