So I am recovering from anorexia/overexercising and wanted to ask some "normies" for help. I have found I counter my ED best if I have facts/others experience to rely on. Currently this is my struggle:
Three days ago I graduated from university. I was working constantly to maintain the 4.0 I graduated with and working full time to afford university. I probably was sitting, but I guess since I was so busy I didn't realize it. Now, I am freaking out even just after one day of moving back home and not having school/work. My summer job doesn't start till June and I am scared I may slip back. I am just realizing how much sitting there is and I am scared because now I am not living on the 4th floor of a building and am feeling I am being lazy. I do spin class for an hour and strength for 30 minutes 3-4 times a week, but I am scared to sit down. Forced myself too today, but I am wondering....is sitting too much bad? Will I need a lot less? Or is it normal to do more sitting than standing in waking hours?

While you're recovering, I wouldn't worry about sitting versus standing. My recommendations are to talk to someone with experience in helping people in recovery and perhaps to try to hang out with your friends more to keep your mind occupied.

To help make yourself more confortable (feel more in control) you should take advantage of tracking your nutrition. This will at least help put the numbers in front of you so you can realize and understand what they mean and what your body needs. You'll start learnign more about the nutritional values of food and what food you need to eat to hit your goals. Take advantage of MFP and also if you find other programs/sites to calculate your goals you can customize MFP numbers accordingly.

CONGRATS on your 4.0 and your recent graduation... This is quite an accomplishment. Boredom can cause a lot of issues. The old American saying goes: "An Idle Mind is the Devil's workshop".. Whether Christian or not (I see by your profile that most likely you are), this implies that if you are not occupying your mind with good and wholesome things then it is common to involve yourself with things that are not as wholesome... For many of us, it is overeating, binge eating, emotional eating... For those such as yourself, it may be over exercise, purging, etc... The key is, try to get out there and DO something... Go out with friends... Find things around the house to do, etc., volunteer at an animal shelter. Exercise is NOT bad but of course too much of a good thing can be. Try to find other things to occupy your mind with... And by all means, in your case, if you decide to increase your activity level, increase your intake to compensate... For centuries, men and women worked from dawn til dusk, then they slept... That was NORMAL... BUT, they would eat accordingly -- food is fuel for the body. By all means get out there and find something to do so you are engaged and occupied... preferably with friends, etc. Best wishes on your every success.

If it helps at all I sit here at my computer almost all day. I go to the grocery store for food every day (our fridge doesn't work so we don't buy in bulk) and make myself get on the stationary bike (a slow-pedaled 30-40 minutes a day), but beyond that I sit here. I paint my nails, read through forumsblogs, watch internet videos, play computer games. All day. I'm currently 175 and losing about a pound and a half a week from my minimal efforts (and calorie counting). Sitting is not bad in and of itself. Find a book you like and just sit and read for 30 minutes a day. It's good to relax. Congratulations on graduating and good luck with your summer job! June will be here before you know it. :flowerforyou:

Thank you all so much! I am finding some things to do and will be working come June...just have to get through these two weeks. But yesterday I let myself sit and ate my full meal plan and two HUGE fear foods I banned myself from and this morning my weight was down! I am in shock and it's so freeing!

I have chosen not to track calories, but I have a meal plan I follow from the dietitian I have and will adjust accordingly if start to gain or lose. Tried the calorie way but it got obsessive and led to massive relapse.
