check out my diary

If you wouldn't mind giving me your opinion on my diary. I am concerned that my breakfast is too many calories. I strive to eat between 1400-1600 day. I'm also in my second week of insanity, which said I should eat 1300 calories a day.

I seem to always go over on my sugar. Is that normal? I'm not eating candy bars, I don't drink coffee, so the sugar is coming from fruit, protein shakes, jelly occasionally, and other random places.

Should i be doing something differently?

Also, I'm not eating back all of my exercise calories. I don't log insanity in the exercise tracker. I'm 5'6 and 175lbs, wanting to get to 155lbs with Insanity, and hopefully to 140 after that. I understand that muscle weighs more than fat and with Insanity I might not necessarily see the scale change, but could still be losing inches. Either is fine, as long as lose!

You may want to try soy or almond milk to reduce your sugar intake.

Some will disagree. I looked over the past 3 days and nothing really stood out is really bad. I like to be a little heavy on the protein to aid in my lifting and it looks like protein is strong for you. I don't personally worry about the sugar and sodium; however, if you are diabetic or metabolic syndrome, you may want to cut that a bit.... If you have high blood pressure, watch the sodium... If your fat is good fat (fish, etc.) I would not worry about that either... I was a little interested on today's post of 500+ calories for Kit Kat... Unless you had like 2 of these, these are generally only about 250 calories per bar... If you are eating two of those in a setting, I would be concerned that you are using your available nutritional allotment for a lot of empty calories. Overall, though, it looks ok... I see you are not posting lunch but I also see you have lunch values in other slots so as long as you are spreading your meals throughout the day somewhat on a regular basis, it looks good. Breakfast values are not a problem at all... In fact, it is generally considered better to have heavier meals in the morning and lighter meals in the evening... of course, many of us agree that meal timing really has nothing to do with long term weight loss. Best wishes on your every success.

I just looked at your diary and I'm very surprised that kitkats don't have ANY sugar??

Catsup/Ketchup, depending on the type you buy, will have sugar in it, too. Bananas will get you every time. Why not substitute some raw veggies instead. :)

    Are you diabetic?

A couple things here. Depends on the amount of meals/snacks you have durign the day, bottom line is the end fo the day results. Doign activities like weight training and airobic excerizes such as insanity you don't know how much cals you;ve burned. If you want to get a good feel about programs like this you should follow their meal plans which will help guide you through the program with the nutrition your body will need to get through these programs. Track your food and see where you're at after 2 to 3 weeks and make adjustments accordingly.

I will say that doing high intensity programs such as insanity you need to plan your meals and macros to make it through the workouts. Keep your carbs at min of 150 g to start and tweak after 2 weeks if need be.

Also insanity you'll be purely losing body fat AND NOT GAINING MUSCLE. Yes you'll feel stronger but you are simply activating muscles in which wyou've never done so before.

Be a bit more consistent with your macros. I'd suggest 1g per protein per lb of your body weight. Fats can be between 50 and 60 g's and carbs 150g and under. :)

I'll check out a macro calculator. Thanks for the tips so far! I'm going to add some juicing in there since that's my preferred way of getting lots of veggies. I was paleo for a long time so eating all these carbs is so weird to me, but I'm doing it (and liking it lol)

Unless you have a reason for restricting sugar, don't worry about it too much. MFP sets the sugar macro insanely low - 2 pieces of fruit can knock you over it. I actually stopped mine from showing the sugar macro, as it isn't something I need to be concerned about in particular.
