extreme stiffness after exercising?

hi all
lately i've noticed that when i work out or go for walks, my shoulders, clavicle, and upper back all get very stiff. i'm not talking "sore" from working out or muscle pain or anything. it's like i have to push through the pain to lift my arms above my head. it doesn't feel like muscle pain, rather like bone stiffness and i'm wondering if anyone else deals with this on a daily basis and if so, what to do about it.
i've considered taking some calcium supplements as my calcium is pretty low already and exercising moderately/vigorously daily might not combine well without a good amount of calcium. but besides that, i don't know what to do! i dont want to lose my motivation to work out because my upper body won't function!

Do you stretch/warm up properly before and after? If I don't loosen up before a workout and cool down with stretches afterwards my body locks up too.0

Happens to me too a little bit. Warming up before and stretching after solves it for me. I do dynamic stretches before workout and static after. If you don't stretch then you should definitely.0

Try foam rolling / lacrosse ball all the stiff areas.0

you mentioned calcium
Magnesium for nerve health
I also suppliment Glucasamine, and I'm 46 now so I added joint juice, though expensive, is really good to help you feel "greased up" inside.
don't give up0 -

yup, good point, push the flesh around, get all the chemical buildup released!0 -
thanks guys! i've never been one to be patient enough to get in a good warm up and cool down, i just want to go go go (especially since i have a limited amount of time i'm allowed to park my car at the gym and now it's just habit not to take time for that). i'll definitely try warming up and stretching etc and might also go read up on those supplements i've never done foam rolling but i know we have some at my gym so i'll try it next time i go!0

I agree with this too. Warming up with movement then cooling down with static stretches works best for me as well.0 -
Try incorporating yoga into your schedule. It works wonders! Go with slow, restorative yoga at first.0
