My workplace is only a 1.5 mile walk from me but i'm considering the idea of cycling just to half my travel time.

But the thing i'm curious about is... Walking for 25 minutes or cycling the same distance in 12 minutes, would the calories burned be any different? which do you prefer too?

You'll burn a lot more calories walking. It's more work to walk or run a mile than it is to cycle a mile.

This is my exact situation, same distance and everything!

I bike when the weather permits because it saves me about 15 minutes each way. Otherwise, I walk. Walking burns more calories but takes longer... I prefer biking, but I work out in addition to the biking. If I'm walking, I don't do as much additional working out.

Rule of thumb - cycling is about 4-5 times more energy efficient than walking/running. So it uses only about 1/4 of the calories to cover the same distance.

It is not linear, at high speed riding encounters increased air resistance so it gets worse. But that's at significant speed 20+ mph. Bikes are very efficient machines.

On the other hand, the saved time might let you do more workout. Or just ride more :)

You'll burn less calories by cycling. That being said, Cycling > Running. Always. :-)

Luckily with my job i'm on my feet and walking all day long so i think this'll make up for it a little, thank you all though for informing me:)
