Beating myself up (whiney rant ahead)

So I fell for another "weight loss" gimmick. The 21 Day Fix from Beachbody. I just pissed away $60 for a company to send me little colorful plastic containers to "measure" my food, when I can absolutely do this on my own. I can.

I just haven't been.

I haven't been exercising either.

I have finally been to a chiropractor to treat my daily back pain - 11 years of daily pain - and now I feel some relief. The pain has contributed to my eating.

I'm an emotional eater. I eat when I'm depressed. I tend to get down on myself a lot.

I have no limits to my eating. I can easily eat a large pizza by myself. NO problem.

I am not morbidly obese, there are plenty of others out there suffering much more than me, but why do I feel that I have to lose this weight in 21 days? Why do I think that these types of programs work? Why can't I accept that it didn't take me 21 days to put this weight on - it will take more than 21 days to take it off....

This weight has creeped up over the past 7 years. SEVEN YEARS!!! Yup. A little at a time. About 5 lbs a year. Not much at all, really....

So I'm sad today.

I'm sad today because I didn't stop and get my coffee on the way to work this morning. I love my morning coffee -

I'm sad today because the "program" won't allow me my bowl of cereal.

I'm sad today because I wasted my money on a program that really doesn't fit my lifestyle

Why can't I just stick within my daily caloric needs and exercise?

Why is it so hard?

Don't beat yourself up. You'll just get down on yourself which will lead an emotional eater to eat. Then, you'll feel bad for eating, beat yourself up again, and eat some more. It's a vicious cycle.

You got this! You obviously have the want. You know what you NEED to do. You know what is required of you. You just struggle sometimes. We all do. That's why we are here. If it were easy, everybody would be thin. Think about how amazing it feels to see the scale go down a pound, or your clothes start to feel bigger. I have found that when I am upset and want to eat, I come to MFP and read the boards. I get encouraged by everyone else's weight loss and see that my struggles are their struggles. If other people can do it, then I can do it. And you can do it.

Acknowledge your excuses and then bury them. You can do this!

My suggestion is send the stuff back and suck up the shipping. Then eat at a reasonable deficit and start walking until your back is feeling better. The science behind losing weight is simple but nobody ever said it was easy.

Here is what I tell myself when I am feeling down "Suck it up buttercup". Again, that is what I tell myself. That's my mantra. Come up with your own mantra.

And your dog is really cute.

Don't be too hard on yourself. It's all very hard, but it's also all very worth it. We all struggle at times. You, me and everyone else on these boards. Don't rush things; work the "MyFitnessPal" program (calories/exercise/tracking/etc.) and let your body determine the time frame for your progress. Listen to our body. And take it one day at a time. One meal at a time. Good luck and God bless.

I cant help but laugh when I read this, not at you, at myself. We have all done stuff like this trying to lose weight. Just log your calories and you will lose weight. Like that person said if it was easy everyone would be thin. We mess up sometimes and get back on the horse. I know myself with 45 lbs down I feel better but I have to make a conscious effort everyday to log but I can at least have my coffee.

The thing is, capitalism is a system which sells us stuff we don't need or want, regardless of whether or not it's good for our bodies or minds. It sold you easily available, tasty food that was bad for you, and made you fatter. Now it has sold you coloured plastic cups to make you thinner.

Next week someone will try to sell you special shakes, or voodoo magic, or skinny chocolate, or happiness in a bottle for £99.99 with free delivery.

Free yourself. You don't need to buy pizza to make you happy. You don't need to buy plastic cups to make you healthy. You don't need to spend any money, except on healthy, nutritious, whole food, with your eyes wide open.

But you sound like you know this already. You won't find happiness in pizza, and you won't find health in plastic measuring cups. You need to find your hope and strength that you can DO this from good things - friends and faith and family and love. It's not stuff you can eat, or stuff you can buy, and maybe you just need reminding to stop looking for answers in the wrong places.

Don't feel bad. Many people have fallen for gimmicks one time or another. There will always be creeps on the market to screw the public out of money. At least you learned a valuable lesson.

Don't make this harder than it already is!

Eat at a reasonable deficit. Don't cut a ton if you don't have to. It's much easier. There's nothing wrong with losing slow if that means that you can sustain it better.

Calculate your tdee and eat 15% below it if you can. And you can.

Get going! No more gimmicks. Save your money and do it on your own. Learn what it takes so that you can continue this. You have to do this for life, so it's really going to benefit you to learn moderation right now.

You are all so wonderful. Thank you. This is just the "pick me up" that I needed today.

Oh and that pic isn't my dog. He's just an adorable pic I found on the internet.

I can relate......I have "tomorrow" syndrome.

I KNOW what I have to do....I just don't do it and I'm always thinking TOMORROW will be the thing I need.

I have so much free time to walk or exercise, but I just sit on the couch thinking about what I KNOW I have to do to be successful, and that I'll have tomorrow to do it.

So maybe do what an above poster suggested and send the stuff back, eat the shipping (within calorie allowance) and make a fresh start.

Don't be hard on yourself. There are the few exceptions, with iron will, that can "just do it".

The thing is....you're no different than anyone else struggling with their weight.

We all have the same mental and physical struggles....for the most part.
But the ones that have been successful, have found a way to do it.

Just like our struggles are the same, the steps to success are no different.

One day you'll get tired of THIS and you'll change.

Its not easy, but its worth it.

    You're worth it. Good luck.

You can do this and like you said, you know you can. That is someone who is strong and willing to fight. That's what I see. I don't see you whining, I just see you at a crossroads in a way. The fact is, you're wanting to change and you're looking at ways how to. And you're right, you know that it did not take 21 days to put on, so try to not expect yourself to take it off in 21 days. It takes time to change our patterns and create new pathways in our brain. It's so much easier to look at hindsight with 20/20 vision. Look at the here and now of today and really focus on what the next positive thing you can do in the next minute, hour, day and focus on that. Take one moment at a time and truly focus on today, not the future, not the past, but the present.

Being mindful is one of the hardest things to do but you seem to be quite in tune with yourself and you're strong. You can do this! Hang in there :)

Next time you are tempted come on here and ask us about it. Someone like you has probably tried it and can tell you to stay away. That's what we are here for.
