Body weight training versus weight training

Just a few more question then I'll be quiet for the rest of the day I promise! Is there a difference or is body weight training just a starting place for weight training? I guess my biggest thing is should I be doing both or one or the other?

Good question. I would like to know that too.

I just joined a gym and was all fired to do heavy lifting. Alll they gave me in my complimentary PTO consult was lifting my own weight.

    Boring. ....

Both are a form of strength training. You can do whichever you prefer or a combination of both. Any good strength training program with weights should still make use of the fundamental body weight movements as well. Some find weight training easier as u just add more on the bar. Whereas body weight progressions are a bit more subtle but can still lead to great strength gains, despite many people under rating their effectiveness.

My trainer started me with bodyweight training (using TRX) until I had gained enough strength to move onto 'proper' free weights. Don't underestimate how heavy that bar is! If you're just starting out, bodyweight exercises will help you prepare for lifting heavy with good form, once you can lift the bar itself. Then you'll be up and running,
