Hey guys,
First ever post on here but I've used MFP on and off for awhile the first time I did I lost 29lb but because of unforeseen events (moving, job etc) I put pretty much all of it back on. So now I'm in a good financial state that I can do it right.
My question is I'm rolling about 1000 calories a day to try and get me really motivated again so I'm trying to get some big weight loss to get me really hyped. Now everywhere I have looked and researched says I should eat around 1200 which I could easily do but is it smart for me to do 1000 or a bit less because I weigh around 270lb.
I also walk for 30-40mins a night every night including weekends.
In my first full week of doing this current diet I lost 8.8lb but wondering If that weight loss will continue
Any tips or advice on the diet would be awesome.
Thanks matt!

You need to eat more. I would double that number at least, not including any exercise calories.
ETA: 1200 is the recommended MINIMUM for FEMALES. Since you're male and 270lbs you have a greater calorie need. 1000cals will only end badly, so please eat more.0 -
Eating less than 1200 calories a day is not good. It will actually end up making your weight loss more difficult because instead of burning fat your body will start burning muscle. Don't go below 1200, especially since you are also doing physical activity. I also make sure not to go over my limit on carbs.0

Hard to say what you should be eating considering I don't know your stats (height, activity level etc) but I strongly advise against only eating 1000 calories. I don't think it's likely that you'll get enough energy to get through your day on that amount of calories, and it won't be sustainable in the long run. You didn't gain all the weight overnight, so why expect to lose it so quick? Slow and steady wins...
Here, this is a great thread to help you get on your way.

If you have 75+ lbs to lose 2 lbs/week is ideal
If you have 40-75 lbs to lose 1.5 lbs/week is ideal _____________________<This is you!
If you have 25-40 lbs to lose 1 lbs/week is ideal
If you have 15 -25 lbs to lose 0.5 to 1.0 lbs/week is ideal
If you have less than 15 lbs to lose 0.5 lbs/week is ideal
Set your weight loss goal in MFP to lose 1.5 lbs/week and eat back a percentage of your exercise calories. (they are usually overestimated). Stay hydrated, get adequate sleep, get a food scale, weigh and measure your food, log accurately and be patient!0 -
there is no need what so ever to only eat 1000 cals, you're just setting yourself up for failure and probably a binge!0

How tall are u? Because u are a male 23yr old and assuming u are not a dwarf, you are eating way too few calories. U also need to take the activity of your lifestyle into account.0

Do not starve yourself! This will not have good long term results - especially if you do your daily walk - you have to increase your intake, you are depriving your body of all the nutrients it needs to function properly.
(I am not a specialist, this is just something I have learnt from my fellow MFP'ers)0 -
Awesome that's all really good stuff to read and think about. I'm also 174cm tall, I do find it hard knowing what to eat really because it gets to the point where everything I eat I start to feel guilty about and start thinking "oh **** I'm going to gain to much weight having this apple" for example.
If anyone has a basic food plan... I will follow it to the T!0 -

Eat what you enjoy! Make sure you hit your protein and fat targets to fuel your next workout and to protect your LBM. Buy a food scale, weigh and measure everything, drink water, exercise regularly, eat back a percentage of your exercise calories and get adequate sleep.
MFP is a wonderful tool! Best of luck!0 -
Thanks heaps already today I have upped my calories and will slowly work them up.0
