Morning all,

Just a quick question about holidays. When you go away do you stick to your plan or just 'have a week off'? I dont want to spoil the holiday for everyone by being fussy about my food and whipping out my phone to check calories all the time, but on the other hand I don't want to have a week off completely to find I cant get back on track when we return. I think the answer is maybe to try and make sensible choices about my food while away, maybe log everything each evening and hope my choices are good ones!

How do you manage holidays and what helps you get back on track when you return?

Just be mindful of what you eat. IF it's a more active vacation, like lots of walking, or swimming etc, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just enjoy your time.

I went on Vacation beginning of December to Florida. We did a few theme parks, helped unpack my SIL's new pace etc. I was mindful, and logged what I could, guessed for others, etc. Came back and still lost 4 lbs.

You don't have to be perfect. Just enjoy your time and get back to it when you come home. In the grand scheme of things, 1 week is a drop in the bucket.

Life's too short for worrying too much ..... don;t stress out on holiday .. If you have been 'dieting' for a while, you get a better idea of what's good and what's bad and what a portion size looks like..... Leave your phone in your room and have fun.

Personally I go mad. I put on weight and it takes 6 weeks to get rid of it again. and I love it that way.

I plan ahead for holidays and vacations by adding a few more exercise days and eating a bit less the week prior to the event. When the time comes, I relax and enjoy it.

I just try to be mindful of what I'm eating and not stress about it too much. I would recommend staying out of the candy shops, though. Darn chocolate pralines!

Make sensible choices, but if there's something you really want to splurge on, go for it and enjoy it!

I'm already thinking about this with Thanksgiving and Christmas right around the corner.

I think I'll enjoy just ONE Thumbprint cookie instead of 12. lol

I'll have ONE cup of egg nog rather than a quart.

I'll enjoy the neighborhood holiday decorations via my feet rather than sitting inside a moving car.

In other words, I'll be mindful of what I'm doing and still enjoy the season.

I just eat sensibly I guess. I just came back from a vacation which consisted mostly of resting and a bit of walking around/sightseeing. What we did on all but one day was to eat at the a la carte restaurant instead of choosing from the buffet. The one day we went for the buffet we tried pretty much everything on offer. Very small potions, but still. We really felt like we overate big time afterwards. Unfortunately, the food quality wasn't all too good and quite a lot on the heavy side, but even with a coke or a beer every day I lost weight.

If I'm away from home (vaca or business trip) I don't log. I just try to avoid daft options like hotel breakfasts loaded with pastries, choose lean proteins, add as much fruit and veg as I can and just enjoy the company I'm with. Oh, and try really hard to get some sort of exercise every day - a walk, a bike ride, a workout in a hotel gym.
