Is this a sign I should increase my calorie intake?

My goal says it should be 1380.

- I'm 5'6" 124 pounds
- I work out 6 times a week doing insanity
- I'm trying to get rid of five inches from my waste, an inch or so from my thighs, but I don't know how many pounds that is because I'm sure other areas of the body may be targeted first.
- When I get 100 calories below my weight goal, it'll say, "you'll weight 115 pounds in 5 weeks." Is that too low? I thought 118-119 would be more reasonable, maybe 120.
- I am kind of sedentary, but because of school, I am kind of active (walking to the bus stop (3 minutes), walking from class to class). I'm just not running around from place to place. On the weekends is when I get really sedentary.
- A few times even when I had less than 60 calories left, I was still a bit hungry when I went to bed. I wasn't drastically starving, but I was thinking that I should probably eat more.

I don't want to overeat, though.

you're doing insanity on 1300 cals?!

given your stats it is rather doubtful that you can lose 5 inches from your waist....

Do you have any advise on how much I can consume?

What I do and what I recommend to people is to eat at a calorie level that allows you to drop 1-2 lbs/week. This assumes an average calorie burn from you getting in all of your workouts. This will be different for everyone, so you'll have to do some trial and error to figure it out. I'd start ~1600 cal/day. Hit this goal, along with your macros and getting in your workouts, for a week. If you lose 1-2 lbs, you're good to go. If you lose too much, increase your intake and repeat. If you don't lose enough, reduce your intake a bit and repeat. After a few weeks, you'll figure out what works for you in your situation.

Insanity is a very challenging program. I would try eating more and see how your body reacts (especially since you're so close to your goal weight). Also, what are you macros?

If you have questions, please let me know.

I just got a headache reading that you eat 1380 on Insanity!! That is a very intense workout. When I am doing insanity the nutrition guide or tdee calculators tell me I need to be eating 1800 to 2000 calories when doing 6 days of intense workout. I am 5'3 and 163 lbs. Shorter than you, but you should be eating more at least to fuel your body I would think.

Are you eating back exercise calories? Do you track your insanity calories? You either need to log your exercise and eat back your exercise calories or you need to change your activity level to active so that you can eat more because it sounds like you aren't eating enough for how much you're exercising

I know everyone is different, but to give you a comparison, before I packed on a few winter/lazy pounds I ranged from 118-121 (I'm also 5'6") and I usually ate around 1700-2000 calories a day. My main form of exercise was walking (trying to get 10,000 steps a day on my FitBit). So if you're doing such intense exercise, it's likely you need more calories.

Also, from my experience, getting down to 118 vs. 124 lbs didn't make a significant difference in my waist -- nowhere near 5 inches -- so perhaps you should look into more strength training if you want to get leaner.

    ^ This

Women in particular are notorious for dropping calories too low, too quickly, in hopes of seeing fast losses. While this can work to a point, you're not doing yourself any favors long term. Incorporating weight training and eating a diet higher in calories generally nets the type of physique most women want; lean muscle, feminine curves, etc.

I almost think that you can't be really serious. For someone your height the " ideal " weight range is 120-132 pounds depending on bone structure. With 120 pounds you would be at the very bottom of the acceptable weight range, IF you have a very slight bone structure and with less than that you would be under weight.
Also, what do you hope to accomplish eating 1380 calories ? I am less than five feet tall and in my mid 60's and eat 1200 calories or a bit more and I cannot imagine a young woman seven inches taller than I with a presumably higher metabolism and a much more active life only eating 180 calories more than I. Just doing insanity would use up more than those calories !
Aren't you concerned with your general health at all ?

I started this topic, asking people if I should increase my calorie intake. So, no, I'm obviously not concerned about my general health.

According to some sites, I'm only burning around 230 calories when I insanity which is part of why I was questioning this.

Most days, I didn't feel hungry past dinner, so I thought it was fine. When I was hungry (maybe 2-3 times these past two weeks), I usually assumed it was because I wasn't putting in enough complex carbs or fibers. I'm increasing to 1650 calories to see how that goes.

    Lol
Speaking of lifting, I don't have access to a gym or weights (I should ask for some weights during the holidays). Are there any videos on YouTube or wherever that have strength-training exercises without the use of equipments?

I'm measuring my waist a the belly button, since that's where most of the fat is.

I am trying hard enough, I get tired and breathless when I do it. I think I've been miscalculating because I misread "you are out of breath and could not talk WHILE doing your Insanity workout" as "you are out of breath and could not talk AFTER doing your insanity workout"

Oops on two things- I've been measuring just a little below the belly button and I gave you the wrong number- it's a little below 31".
