Armband for Phone while Running?

Good morning lovely MFPers!

I desperately need an armband for my phone. I have an iphone4s (I know-- ancient), so it doesn't have to be massive. I just need something that I can use without taking the phone out if its case (because that's a pain in the butt). The last 2 cases I've had required you to take it out of the case to fit (lame). I use my phone to log using RunKeeper/sync with my HRM. I don't need the earphone jack to be accessible, so I could theoretically use an armband designed for a phablet like a Samsung note.

Let me know what you do!

There are a ton of these available on eBay extremely cheap, just get one a bit bigger than you would for the iPhone like one for a Samsung Galaxy S4

I use a tuneband and like it. The recent versions have a small and medium armband size that are shipped with it: fits most people. It is comfortable and doesn't chafe. It is NOT waterproof so not good in the rain. Some sweat can get in if you connect the phone to the band before putting it around your arm, but if you put it on thr arm first, then attach the phone you are good to go with one layer of the strap between your arm and thd phone.

I'm also in the market for an armband (iPhone 4), but in the mean time what I'm using is a plain cotton headband, tucking it underneath my phone case and wrapping it around my arm! Totally comfortable and stays on!

I bought mine at a running expo before a race. It's helpful if you can let your phone "try it on" before buying.

Before losing it after a race, I had an iPhone 4 with the Wahoo Fitness ANT+ dongle (to read HRM and bicycle sensors) and their flexible armband case. I think they called that generation the "sport band".

No frills, but worked well. Until I forgot it on top of the car. Ugh.

I personally HATE the armbands, they're big and bulky and get all sweaty, they ether start sliding down my arm or I have to tighten it so much I feel like my circulation is being cut off.

I'm looking into buying the FlipBelt instead, it comes in many sizes and colors and holds a variety of things while out running. I haven't bought one of these yet, but I have every intention on getting one with my next paycheck, all the reviews seem to be pretty good.

Right now I tuck it in my bra under one of the straps. I guess I'm a sweatier person, because the dang thing practically needs a scrub-up after.

Thank you all for your specific brand suggestions! I guess the night time crew frequents the forums far more than the early birds.

    this one sucks
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E6AQ96Y/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

i just got it about a week ago, first time out the plastic ripped. the quest continues!!

i like the idea of the wrist band as opposed the arm band because i constantly have to stop, remove it to use any features on my phone, such as downvote a song on pandora. lol

my arm band is also falling apart, the velcro is coming off, due to all the taking off and on.

I had a really hard time finding one that fit my phone, because it's a Droid Razr Maxx with an Otterbox, making it quite bulky. Finally found one for cheap on Ebay. That and Amazon are the best places to look.

This is the one I have: http://mobile.walmart.com/ip/INSTEN-Purple-Sport-Armband-Running-Gym-Case-Sportband-For-iPhone-4-4S-5-5S-5C-iPod-Touch-5/33669223?type=search

It looks bulky. That's because it is. But it does it's job; I have a fairly large case, and I manage to squeeze my phone in there. It also stays up on my arm pretty well. I did have an issue with some of the Velcro tearing, but nothing super glue couldn't fix. Anyway, it's worth the price.
  • Full disclosure here, for the past 3 years I have been designing and selling the HB Tune brand hand band www.HBTune.com so I am obviously biased, We have a pouch that will fit your iphone 4 without having to take it our of its protective case. Our band is similar to an armband in material and price - they are $24.99, but it is designed to fit in your hand, as well as your arm. When you wear it in your hand, the design nestles your phone in the palm of your hand, in exactly the same spot as if you were simply holding it. Now however, you won’t have to worry about gripping it or dropping while on your run. You can also easily touch through the screen in order to access an app or change a song.

It is also designed to be used as an armband and comes with a stretchy band that will fit most arms without pinching. In addition, it is made of a water resistant material so your phone will be protected from sweat as well as light rain. My apologies in advance if this sounds like a sales pitch, but I invented it because I am a runner as well and truly believe in the concept.
