Neolfw running? Advice?

Options
Ok so I've been reading nrolfw and really want to get into the lifting heavy thing but I enjoy running, not in intervals but just running, no I'm not a marathon runner, more like a 5k jogger but I kind of feel like the book wants to move away from that kind of "cardio." I understand what it means but I enjoy my running too, am I reading too much into this or are the 2 not really compatable?

Even marathoners lift heavy; however, they just don't do it in a way that builds the amount of muscle that would get in the way of going fast (you don't see body builders winning marathons because its tough to lug the amount of muscle 26.2 miles). Every book I have read on long distance running recommends 2-3 strength training days per week with at least one (and sometimes they say all 3) being heavy lifting.
