Belly button piercings and weight loss etc?

Well, I am currently 250lbs, and I need to lose another 100lbs to be at target and be a healthy BMI. I'm not planning on getting a piercings for at least another 50lbs lost as my stomach does need to be a bit flatter and my jeans tend to sit belly button height. But I'm planning on going on holiday with a water park and would like to wear a bikini and have the piecing fully healed, so I would like to get it pierced when I still have say 30 - 50lbs to lose. Will this affect the piercing in anyway? I don't want to pay and go through it all for it to mess up, but I'd also like to use it as a target to aim for. Just let me know if you've had some experience or have some advice :) thank you x

Yes it will. Body piercing takes a long time to completely heal. If you have any loose skin when you are done, it would hang and possibly rip, this is not a scar you want. Swelling is usually less than a week so even 2 weeks before you go would be fine. Belly button piercings are particular on how they sit. Sub dermals may be able to be done before you lose all the weight, also if they need redone the scarring is minimal. Belly button scars stay forever. I can still use mine and I have had it out for 14 yrs (when I was pregnant with my oldest).

ETA belly button rings look best and have least scarring if your belly is tight, not ultra thin just tight. Any sag to the skin and the jewelry can cause the piercing to droop...picture gages for a Betty button...not good

This all comes down to anatomy, how you lose, the area around your belly button and so on. Normally as long as it's a gradual loss then you won't see much in the way of changes.

Usually only way a piercing scars *very* badly or rips is if it's not well looked after, it under goes major trauma or problems are ignored, if you notice it start to move, migrate or it doesn't heal well after the initial 6-9 months healing time then you'd have to go back and consult your piercer and they will decide if there's a need to abandon the piercing.

Also you want to avoid pool water for a couple of months after having any piercing and make sure that you are actually anatomically suited to the piercing before you get your heart set on it. Even at a lower weight I can't get it done because my stomach deeply creases exactly where my belly button is so healing would be a nightmare.

ETA: I've been pierced over 40 times in my life and I help run the UK's biggest modification forum so I am basing my advice on personal experience, what I've learned from piercers and modification artists and seeing diaries of people with navel piercings who have gone through weight gain/loss and pregnancy. Piercings are very personal things, what works out fine for one person can go wrong for another.
