Gym Noob, Need some pointers

I have a few questions about how to keep track of my time in the Gym. This is the first time in my life i've had a trainer so I'm really pumped to keep up all this hard work. I'm not sure how to log the exercises we were doing and I'm such a noob at actual organized exercise routine, I thought i would as for some help.

1. Today we did an hour or "explosive" muscle groups and I'm not really sure how to enter this into my diary. Do I enter in each individual type of activity. We did about 20 different things... OR should I just change my overall activity level in my settings? Which is better to do?

I have a few more questions but i wanted to see who responds to this post...

    Buy a heart rate monitor with a chest strap (I like my Polar FT7, but there are others out there).
