Managing Supplements/Vitamins Question

Hi all,

I have a question about supplement/Vitamin use.

I have been recently diagnosed with low iron blood (11.4 level) and deficient in Vitamin D (18 level) I have been on the iron supplements for about 3 weeks now (Ferrex 150 Forte) I take them 2x per day I space them 12 hours apart because that just seems logical and I didn't really see any suggestion on the prescription or really anywhere about the time spacing I should put between the pills, so I take them at 9 a.m. & 9 p.m. because that works best with my schedule for the whole week.

I also just started (yesterday) an over the counter 2,000 IU Vitamin D pill at lunch time and it just wiped me out completely yesterday a few hours after taking it, I started to feel really tired and had a dizzy sensation/light headed feeling I guess I would call it (I'm assuming this was the reason I felt that way as my iron supplement has never made me feel this way). Could it be that the iron and Vit. D are being taken too close together even though I spaced them 3 hours apart.

In doing some research yesterday people suggested that Vit. D should be taken with Magnesium b/c Vit. D uses Magnesium to work and if you don't get enough in your system it could take a toll on you. I did not have my blood tested for Magnesium deficiency (at least I think, everything seemed to be spelled out pretty good on the blood work that I'm pretty sure I recognized everything correctly)

I have also read that people say you should take the Vit. D with your biggest meal but I feel with the schedule I'm on with my iron pills that I just can't do that (at least Tues.-Thurs. b/c of work) because I don't want to take anything too close to my iron, and I don't eat dinner until around 6:30-7 at night because that's the earliest I can get home after the gym.

I just started the Vitamin D yesterday because I just received the rest of my blood work results in the mail.

You should really talk to your doctor or a pharmacist.

I would definately talk to the Dr. When I was diagnosed with low d(mine was 9) I didn't take over the counter, I was taking 100,000 units a week prescribed by the Dr. I still take higher OTC dosages than you are. Ironically my magnesium was fine.
