Im investing in a new bike for commuting to work. Cycled to work a few times but going to be doing it on a daily basis. Anyone any tips for me? What else to buy other than a bike and helmet?

I don't have any tips, but check this out... https://nationalbikechallenge.org/ It might interest you and keep you motivated!

I haven't yet managed to start commuting by bike regularly, as opposed to occasionally, but I'd recommend a rack and panniers or some other form of bike bag. I used to use a backpack, but the panniers make it a lot easier, especially when it's hot and you don't need something extra on your back.

I have a mountain bike which I like for the purpose because we have millions of potholes, but I didn't actually buy it for commuting and I think most bikes would be fine and it depends on the specifics of your commute.

Panniers, it avoids wearing a rucsac, so ending up with a bit mark on whatever you're wearing.

And learn how to change a tube quickly. Carry spares, and a CO2 inflator.

fwiw I use a Brompton, but I travel by train, so a folder is essential for me. Front mounted back for my day to day stuff; laptop, notebook, lunch etc. I end up having to wear a rucsac when I'm carrying more.
