Does it not bug anyone the repetitive nature of questions?

I'm mean 9 times out of 10 i will always see someone asking why they aren't loosing weight and they are eating something ridiculous like 700 kals a day and sending they're bodys into starvation mode.

Repetitive questions happen, but repetitive statements of falsities are what really get to me. If someone is legitimately eating 700 calories a day they WILL lose weight. It is insanely unhealthy and they will be malnourished but starvation mode as the way many on this site use it....is simply not true. Metabolic adaption happens but not to an extreme of not losing on under 1000 calories and never gaining weight on a deficient. If you are in a deficient you will lose weight.

Maybe you need to actually read the answers

Why spend precious time using the search function when you can ask a question and just wait for answers

The structure of this subject line bugs me. (It's not wrong or anything, OP. It just bugs me.)
  • I find it highly annoying. If there's something I'm curious about or just don't know, I'll use the search function. It tends to gather a lot of useful information without clogging up the board with the same, often repeated questions.

My impression has been it's a can't-win scenario. If you ask a repetitive question, you get harangued for asking a question for the hundredth time. If you use the search function, find an old thread, and bump it to thank the OP, reignite the conversation, etc., you get harangued for necro'ing a dead thread.

Mostly I just like using the word "harangue."

    Not a bit! Because:

1.) I don't have to read any of the posts, let alone click on them at all if I'm not up for it and. . .

2.) I like helping people. And sure, they can search the forum and find a million posts with the same question and a billion answers, but not everybody is familiar with how forums function and since most posts on this forum end in arguments with drastically different views, it probably seems like asking for themselves is a better idea anyway.

But I can see how it could bother some people. It is several times a day with the SAME stuff. The only repetitive posts that bother me are the people posting the saaaaame crap that isn't backed by science and could potentially ruin somebody's efforts to get started or reach their goal. Not a lot of people seem willing to do their own research when it's easier to click "NEW TOPIC" and have information thrown at you from everywhere.

No it doesn't bug me at all b/c I realize that different people have different suggestions and personally I really like hearing and learning from new people. But that's just me.

I like people who use big words. I'm gonna look this one up and use it in my every day language.

Word for word I agree with the post above. Get out of my head.
Actually I've seen hospitals put people on 800 cal so that person can rapidly lose wt. Example. Stroke victims have a small window of time to get recover but if they are obese it hinders their recovery.

I have one repetitive question: why do so many spell "lose" as "loose"?

or those posts talking about repetitive questions and how it bugs people.

In all honesty people all feel their situation is unique
Get hammered for rezzing a zombie thread
Are new and haven't realized there is a search function

We all have the choice to go in and respond or not...no reason to get annoyed with anyone but yourself if you go into them when you have had enough....

I would say that a lot of the repetitive question are made by people

    A) Trying to sell something
    2) Have an agenda
    3) Purposely trying to get a rise out of people.
    4) Trying to get hits for the website.

Now excuse me while I wash down my raspberry keystones and green coffee bean extract with a MLM magical shake with hundreds of super foods in it.

    And bacon......

    Never forget bacon.

What strikes me as more pointless than the repetitive questions is the "would you ______ the person above you/spank, date, dump, whatever to the person above you/person above you profession/name, etc?" These are posted constantly--no, I don't look at them anymore. As for the repetitive questions, I'm a little more lenient, esp if a noobie is inquiring. Sure, the Search can be implemented. Besides, on this site, just how esoteric does one want the inquiries??

Nope, doesn't annoy me one bit

When I was new here I asked a lot of questions that have probably been asked before (didn't even think of the search function back then) and got a lot of answers that helped me get to where I am now.

If we are spending time on this forum anyway then does it really matter how many times the question is asked if the answer helps the OP?

Surely by now every conceivable question must have been answered many times, so if everyone did a search there would be no forum because no questions would ever need to be asked again (except the chit chat topic maybe).

Doesn't bother me. If people were required to only ask questions that nobody had ever answered before this would be a very boring and quiet place to be. We come here to exchange information, ideas. and support. Preaching at people about what they post doesn't help them. It more than likely has run a lot of people away from MFP and that's really sad.

Sweating the small stuff isn't healthy. Peace.
