Not your typical juice fast question...

I know this is a controversial mfp subject, but I'm doing a 14 day herbal colon cleanse (Inner Out). My fibromyalgia pain is starting to return and this kicks it to the curb every time! In the past, I've also experienced an amazing thing... my nasal passages, which are always swollen, magically heal and shrink about a day into the 4 day juice fast portion of the cleanse. My mind is also incredibly clear and i find that I can actually focus and concentrate, which seems impossible at other times! I'm thinking this might point to a food allergy, since these awesome benefits begin about a day into my juice fast and returns as soon as I start eating again.... Thoughts?

Medical student here. I would also suspect a food allergy; make an appointment with your doctor. They're the only one who can tell you for sure.

Add notes to your food diary. When do you have symptoms? How bad are they? Keep track and look for patterns. If, for instance, they're only bad when you have dairy, then cut dairy for a while and see what happens.

But on the whole, cleanses are a waste of money. You want to clean your colon? Eat lots of fiber and drink lots of water.

I just got back from my Honeymoon and i plan to go 10 days without sugars(sweets, rice ,bread, etc): this is what helps me get back on track. I ate really unhealthy and my feet and fingers are swollen. I have done the mater cleanse last year and it really helped me with my journey. Do wants bet for you and your body. My hope is to one day become a raw vegan.

    Sounds plausible.

@MyouTakaraTri- Thanks for the input. I have tried cutting out dairy and gluten for almost two years. The symptoms were a little better, but nowhere near perfect. I KNOW corn affects me, but dang... corn is in EVERYTHING and they don't even have to list it on the ingredient label here in the US if it is "part of the packaging process" like, for example, the cornmeal that gives pizza crust it's crunch.

As for the cleanse... I know the medical community is fairly anti-cleanse, but I can't argue with the facts. I dealt with debilitating fibro pain for more than ten years before I discovered this and i can tell you, the pain pretty much goes away after I do this and it lasts 8 months to a year. It might be useless for some people, but all I know is that it truly works for me.

I'm glad that it works for you, and I'm not doubting that it does, but I'm willing to bet it's more to do with something that you're removing from your diet while you do it rather than something IN the cleanse itself, and I'd be more interested in finding out what the problem is. Do what I said before with adding notes to your journal, and ask your doctor to refer you to an allergy specialist. If it IS corn, well, that will be difficult, but I'm sure it's doable.
