Sugar and Fat..

Hi All,

I'm managing to get fitter, increasing the protein in my diet and reducing the fat and sugar i eat.

However, I'm still eating more of these than I'd like.. But they're coming from things such as fruit, and yoghurt, and flax seed.

Does anyone know, or have a link to a page that describes, how much "good sugars" and "good fats" are ok each day?

Currently getting around 50g sugar a day (around half from a banana for breakfast), and 45g fat which both seem a lot!

Any help appreciated! Thanks! :)

Not an expert, but there's just too much variation in 'how much of something I can eat'. Sugars is one of the primary suspects here, some people deal with sugar much better than others. If you're losing (or maintaining your weight) and you blood sugar is normal and you're fine with energy levels, then you're eating as much sugar as you need.

As it comes to fat, that's a whole debate on it's own. By now people generally agree that hydro fats are super bad and you should have as little as possible. But when it comes to other fats, that's a whole different story. People who follow paleo (including me) usually eat a lot of what they call 'healthy' fats, and cut out a lot of carbs. If you're doing long cardio workouts (i.e. jogging) then low carb diet simply isn't good for you.

But general idea is that if it' working for you, and not causing health problems, then it's good. And if you want to read more about fats in general, check out things like this:

Sugar from natural sources are alright usually unless you have an underlying medical condition like Diabetes.

So do not fret the extra sugar so long as you know the sources are alright (fruits, vegetables etc.). What you wat to avoid is ADDED sugars, such as in a candy bar, a soda, and such.

As for fats, you should be fine with fats again if you do not have a medical reason for not being fine with them.

When losing weight, I don't imagine anyone being even capable of having too much of fat in their diet to cause problems from the amount of it. Just watch your macros and aim for something reasonable.
