Race complication

So I completed my second 5k today and ended up half way through swelling up in my hands and feet. The weather was a mild morning around 55F and calm day. The swelling was uncomfortable especially at the tips of my fingers. The issue ended up distracting me because I have never experienced swelling in that way before in all my activities outdoors or during my last 5k in February. I've been generally consistent with logging, but I'm not great with hydration all the time. I am wondering if some of the experienced runners on this board might provide some options to minimize or prevent the swelling for my next race in 3 weeks. I do know that in February I had been very conscious about hydrating the day before and the morning of the race, and this past weekend I had not been hydrating like I was told I should before a race. Any suggestions/tips would be gratefully appreciated. BTW the swelling did go down and resolved itself in less than an hour, so it was short term situation.

BUMP - does anyone have any tips to minimize or prevent swelling while participating in a race?

hydrate, watch sodium intake (sodium causes my feet to swell so i have to watch it carefully). if you hydrated for the first with no problems but experienced swelling at the second and did not hydrate then this is your issue.

as you run point your hands/fingers straight up and wiggle them around - it will help keep swelling down. try to move your toes around too it helps.

Thanks for the reply - I was hoping it was just a simple hydration issue because I really want to keep going with my race training and I have a 5k scheduled for every month this summer and didn't want the distraction/deterrant of a major problem.
