Getting back to it

I've been out of my fitness/health regime for 1.5 months and am starting to get back into it. I got out of it when I was under a lot of stress and ended up comfort eating a lot and lack of exercise. Anyway, I've gained about 5-7lbs and want to lose. I've been even higher a year ago where I gained 15lbs or so and bounced back but can't remember what I did. Any advice on getting back into it? Is it just back to the normal calorie deficit that MPF sets you (I changed my weight, it's 145lbs and at 1740cals) and a lot of patience, exercise etc.?

Hi,
Welcome back to the journey. We all stumble and fall. It's those that get back up and keep moving that succeed. That's what you're doing right now, congrats.
It's important to eat at a calorie level that lets you drop weight at a reasonable rate. It will be different for everyone, so the best way to figure out what is right for you is by trial and error. What I do and what I recommend to people is to eat at a calorie level that allows you to drop 1-2 lbs/week. This assumes an average calorie burn from you getting in all of your workouts. This will be different for everyone, so you'll have to do some trial and error to figure it out. I'd start ~1600 cal/day. Hit this goal, along with your macros and getting in your workouts, for a week. If you lose 1-2 lbs, you're good to go. If you lose too much, increase your intake and repeat. If you don't lose enough, reduce your intake a bit and repeat. After a few weeks, you'll figure out what works for you in your situation.
Also, adding in exercise will help you to progress faster. I really like doing at-home Beachbody fitness programs (P90X, T25, TurboFire, etc). They are super convenient and they really work well (when paired with proper nutrition). They lay out a schedule so that you know what to work, how hard to push, and how long to do it. They really do take the guess-work out of exercise for someone getting into the game.
If you have questions, please let me know.
