maintaining my abs

So i've been working out for about two years now. i have finally started to like my body and am at 17% body fat now. my abs have finally starting showing but i eat a lot of fat and carbs(i work out a lot too). i always stay under my calorie limit and eat about 1300-1400 calories a day but its not what you would describe as 'clean' eating. my question is, will my high carb diet hinder my ab progress and make me gain weight even if i am under my calorie limit?

calories in vs. calories out. if you're under your calorie limit you will not gain weight.
whether it's healthy or not, is a whole different issue... just keep that protein in mind!
but if you're at 17% body fat, it looks like whatever you're doing is clearly working.0 -
You're fine.
If you are eating at a deficit and need to peel off a little more weight you're fine.
The only problem with high carb is that carbs can be "expensive" in your calorie budget. But they are not ineheriently bad- so if you have been managing your calories and not going over what you are aiming for- then you are totally good.0 -
I think you might want to start paying attention to the macronutrients (protein, carbs, fats) because you need a balance of the 3! I did the Jamie Eason Live Fit program and one big thing she spoke about was that abs are made in the kitchen, not the gym. Try to do some carb cycling (high carb 2 days in a row, then a low carb day) to see if you can get some more definition in those abs!0

exactly my point !
"abs are made in the kitchen, not in the gym" - i've heard/read this so much thats why i got curious. i didn't really change my diet much, i've just started eating less and i don't cut out any food group. its just that i crave carbs a lot!0 -
I try to stay within my macros. But I often don't. As long as I keep to my cals, and continue my exercise, I seem to be doing ok.0
