Weight lost = food donation

When I reach my goal I've decided to buy the same amount of pounds lost in food, and donate to my local food bank.
Anyone care to join me?

What a great idea. I'm all for it. Count me in !0

That's a great idea, but also working at the food bank is a great way to burn some calories in the mean time. Most food bank volunteering involves a lot of moving heavy boxes of canned foods around. A great workout indeed!0

That's awesome! What an excellent idea!!
Can I offer a slight tweak? You might be better off contacting your local pantry, soup kitchen or shelter and asking exactly what they need and providing it directly to them.
I work in a food bank and while we love food donations, something like this would never be enough to be added to our warehouse inventory and is just one more thing we have to sort, re-pack and pay to transport elsewhere (like to your local pantry). Food banks are really trying to steer more towards fund drives as opposed to food drives lately just because it is so much more economical for us to use our wholesale connections to get food than rely on the community to spend more than triple for the same product.
Also, if you contact your local pantry, you can be certain that your donation stayed in your community and you are really helping by giving them exactly what they really need.
Just my $0.02.0 -

I've heard this too. Something like three meals for a dollar at their wholesale connections. So maybe we can donate a dollar for every pound lost.0 -
I'm using food bank in a general sense. I have a specific organization in mind for my area, but that's going to differ from place to place.0

Yup, that's exactly right - my food bank can feed someone for a month on $30.0 -

Our local soup kitchen needs time much more than money or food. Call your local to see what they need. They usually have tons of volunteers at Thanksgiving and Christmas but are desperate for help during the summer.0 -
Guys, I donate money and goods to my local charities regularly. I also run a non-profit foundation myself (which gets a lot of my time, money and energy).
All I wanted was to do something symbolic (for myself) while still giving to those in need.0 -

Ok, chillax. Nobody is trying to attack anyone here. We're all just here to help and while you're the one that started the post, you're not the only one reading it and some people might not have known some of the stuff that Lizzy and I posted.0 -

I don't feel attacked, nor do I need to chillax. Apologies if my post came across otherwise. Was only attempting to clarify.0 -
I won a contest and won money to buy food for local charities. I called ahead, and the pantry directed me to their website to show items that they need. I'm dropping it off in small increments (I have more bags than I can count right now...), so if you do go through with this, I'd suggest the same! It'll give them enough time to process, organize, and distribute it before the next big dropoff you make. And be a little easier on you, so you don't have as much to carry each time!0
