Hi there - my name is Cori and I started running 8 weeks ago, and just completed my first 5K on Saturday in 42.05. That was a run/walk combo, but I am determined that the next time I participate in a 5K (June 7th) I will run the entire thing. I am a 46 year old mother, who has had 11 kids. I am not obese, but I am definitely on the high end of the overweight BMI scale, coming in at 168lbs on a 5'3" frame. I used to weigh 125lbs after the birth of the first 5 kids. Then I had a break of 5 years and birthed the next 6 in 5 years. I was a surrogate for the last 6, so don't have to raise them!
I started using MFP because I realized that although I don't have terrible eating habits, I was not losing weight even though I had started running. I could put some of it down to fat converting to muscle, but seeing only an 8lbs loss since February, I was disappointed. I realized, just from tracking today's food choices, that I am a grazer, and it's easy, since I work from home, to grab something small from the fridge or pantry as I walk by - it all starts to add up. This will help me be mindful of what I am eating and should help, along with the exercise I am already doing, to achieve my weight loss goals.
