Disaster Recovery Plan?
I'd appreciate some information from my MFP friends - Do you know if your employer has an active disaster recovery plan in place? Is your plan well publicized. Have you ever had a drill or test of the plan in the event of a disaster.
I was on a committee back in 2006, around the time that the Avian Flu was starting to make national news and we met for over a year developing a contingency plan for that disaster, and also in the event of a catastropic event like a tornado, bombing, etc.
Those plans have now sat on a shelf eight years without any further action. Seems like my company has an out-of- sight, out of mind attitude, and we will be running around making poor decisions because we don't have this plan reviewed at least annually.
I'd like to bring this up at my next staff meeting, but would like to hear from anyone who cares to share what your employer has in place?

the prior company I worked for did have a decent action plan in place and we practiced quarterly fire/disaster drills. the new place I work for (mom and pop) does not have any type of disaster plan at all. but you are talking apples and oranges as far as the size of the work force when comparing the two. first company had up to 5k workers in 3 shifts while current one has maybe a dozen total.
both however did/do have an updated contact list. can send out a mass text message if needed to let everyone know to stay at home. current company doesn't have a security force like the first one so you can't call them to see if the plant has been shut down. many manufacturing companies follow the foul weather plans that most cities do. if they send out alerts on the radio, stay at home, or go home if within a certain mileage of the plant.
hope it helps0
