Distance tracked by Fitbit doesn't match actual distance

I walked/jogged 5.7 miles this morning (by GPS), but my fitbit registered just under 10K steps (I think b/c I am increasing my speed, and so taking longer strides with each step) for around 4 miles.

Should it matter? I feel like the calories it sent to MFP for adjustment (575 for the day, for 14K total steps) might be a little low, but if I'm going to err, I'd rather it be on the side of caution.

I had a smiliar issue and used Sportypal on my phone to track my distance and speed.

You can adjust your stride length in your Fitbit profile, but I didn't bother since I wear it all day and when I am pottering around the house or chasing toddlers, it's not the same stride as when I am outdoors walking my dog.

I figure I'll just keep the data sets separate if I want reference.

Set your stride length in the Fitbit's settings.

Longer stride length to run faster is not always (ok ... rarely) the right method for long term success. Good form is important ... overstriding can lead to injury.
