I usually have a bike ride twice a week, cycling around 40- 50 miles in total. I'm reasonably fit but I wouldn't call myself a cycle specialist at all. On my road bike I usually cover approximately 26 - 27 km in an hour - so a broadly similar sort of pace to you - with an average heart rate of about 125-130 bpm. I'm also 6' but a little lighter (now!) at 172lbs.
My Garmin 610 gives me a calorie burn of about 720 cals per hour for that sort of pace. The only time I've got that sort of burn is a recent ride where I cycled 68km in 2hr 40mins at similar pace resulting in 1909 calories burnt.
Unless you're riding much steeper hills than I am or your exertion is much greater to maintain that speed than mine is I think that sounds a little on the high side. What sort of heart rate readings are you recording?0 -
1600 calories per hour? That sounds way too high.0

Put your ride into strava and see what it says0 -
Sounds high to me, unless you were riding up L'Alpe d'Huez.
Does your Garmin think you're running instead of cycling, perhaps?0 -

That's way too high.0 -
I'd think 700 range is a little more realistic.0

That's way off.........does the 305 use heart rate as a factor to determine calorie burn? I know the 500 series and above definitely does. Make sure all your variable are programmed in correctly and I'd do a hard reset on the unit itself as well.0

Yeah sounds way too high dude. I am 215lbs 5ft9 and I burn about 700-800 cals an hour doing hard cycling. Although I am quite fit with it, at my most unfit I'd say max 900 cals an hour.0

I looked into this months ago and the FR305 is not accurate for calorie burns, especially when cycling. It doesn't use HR to calculate calories burned. I have also found it inaccurate for running, I can do an easy recovery run, tempo run, interval session all following the same course for the same distance and have exactly the same calorie burn.
