What do you think needs to be invented? Volume control for children, remote control for mother in law, etc.

A way of easily communicating my thoughts to other drivers on the road. Middle finger isn't always expressive enough.

A robot who's only task is to go around my home picking up all my shedded hair. The kids don't like it wrapping around their toes.

I'm not sure actually. I used to work with a girl who always told me about how her grandmother would keep a wooden spoon in the car to use instead of her finger. I never understood it and have yet to have it explained to me. I don't get why a wooden spoon. Was it just something else instead of the finger? Was she on her way home from the store and had just bought kitchen utensils? The way she described it, the spoon was always in the car. She was Italian so I always thought maybe it was an Italian thing but I never wanted to stereotype anyone or insult them with it.

How about if your car can just tell the other car to cut it out, and the humans don't even get involved...that is actually where we are headed.

Hmmm. How would I say something like "nice turn signal, *kitten*" using that?

if you ever drive in Bahrain, you won't say "nice turn signal, *kitten*" you'll end up saying stuff like "OMG can you even drive??" and "WTF are you driving at 60 km/h along the middle lane of the highway" (speed limit 100km/h) and "no, that's a central reservation, you're not supposed to drive over it" and "get out of the f****** way!" and "yes it's a roundabout, you're supposed to drive around it" and "no, it's not a good idea to try to join the highway driving at 50 km/h without even checking your mirrors" and "you see those shiny things on the side of your car? they're wing mirrors, you're supposed to check them occasionally especially when changing lanes" and "hello, it's the middle of the night! you're supposed to turn your f****** lights on" and "I know the street lights are lighting your way, but your lights also enable other road users to see you, so it doesn't come across like you have your own personal Romulan cloaking device, because this isn't intergalactic space it's a public highway!" and "that's nice, you have your hazard warning lights on to warn me that you don't know how to drive.... did you know you can turn them on one at a time too?" etc etc etc etc

A way of easily communicating my thoughts to other drivers on the road. Middle finger isn't always expressive enough.
How about if your car can just tell the other car to cut it out, and the humans don't even get involved...that is actually where we are headed.

Exactly. All I'm looking for is a device that can communicate such thoughts to the driver of another vehicle in real time.

Hmmm. How would I say something like "nice turn signal, *kitten*" using that?

I'm not sure actually. I used to work with a girl who always told me about how her grandmother would keep a wooden spoon in the car to use instead of her finger. I never understood it and have yet to have it explained to me. I don't get why a wooden spoon. Was it just something else instead of the finger? Was she on her way home from the store and had just bought kitchen utensils? The way she described it, the spoon was always in the car. She was Italian so I always thought maybe it was an Italian thing but I never wanted to stereotype anyone or insult them with it.

It's an Italian thing. You fear the wooden spoon. Or at least that's what my dad tells me. I think they mellowed out by the time my generation (3rd born in US) came around. I'm still not quite sure how that would get a point across to another driver, unless they were also Italian. Kinda like biting your hand when you're fed up with someone. Around here (SC) I'd get many WTF looks, but back in NJ most people of a certain age would get it.

I do wish I had that way of conveying thoughts to other drivers other than the finger, which I never use because here in SC a lot of people are armed...

How about auto-pilot cars that communicate with each other and don't need human interfearance to get from point A to point B. Should solve your problem.

That's fine, but telling somebody to f*** off is a lot more satisfying.

Not sure if this would be an 'invention'. Perhaps more a 'phenomenon'.. How great would it be if every time someone littered, the trash they discarded would magically relocate to their own front lawn (or doorstep for those who don't have lawns). Same for pet poop. If their pet poops and they don't scoop it magically relocates to their lawn...

ETA: Changed "dog" to "pet" as dogs aren't only ones that poop.

Same for rubberneckers and people who drive past everyone when they're pulled over for emergency vehicles*

*This happened to me the other day. I was stuck on the highway because an accident in front of us was blocking the road. The first emergency vehicle passed, and we all pulled over, then moved back. It happened a second time. By the third wave (out of five) of emergency vehicles, we'd figured out that it didn't make sense to keep moving back, so traffic was just parked on either side of the road. Some "c*ck-smacks," as my sister so brilliantly dubbed them, decided they were going to forego sitting in traffic and drove up the lane we'd created for emergency vehicles (basically straddling both lanes of the highway). They even had the balls to honk at people who took it upon themselves to block them. They drove past me for all of maybe 200 feet before meeting the blocked road due to the accident, so breaking the law got them nowhere fast. I'd have been thrilled if one of the cops responding to the accident took it upon him/herself to start issuing citations, but more than that I really just wanted to convey "you're a f*cking a**hole, thanks for pointing yourself out" to them.
