Can I still walk with a (slightly) painful knee?

My knee has been hurting for about 4 days now, right under the kneecap - it sounds like "runner's knee". It's only painful when I jog/jump on it, but barely noticeable when I walk. I walked about 5 miles two days ago, and it wasn't too bad. I'd like to walk again today, but I don't know if walking will disrupt my knee from healing.

try KTTape. it can be found at wal mart and target. I use them for longer runs or runs with hills. i still get a little pain in my knees when I run.

Have you replaced your shoes lately? I can always feel it in my knees when it's time to replace my shoes. I'd start there (and if you haven't been to a local running store to be fitted for running shoes, that is step #1).

Second, ice the knee for 15 mins on, 15 mins off, as frequently as you can.

Third, take ibuprofen to also help reduce inflammation.

Fourth, use a foam roller to roll out your IT band, hamstrings, glutes, calves, etc. If you don't have a foam roller, get one.

Fifth, never a good idea to run through pain. Fix the problem, let it heal, then run again.

ETA: If none of that helps, time to get yourself to a chiro that can do ART to try to find the area that's causing the pain, or to an ortho if that doesn't work.

NEVER run through pain!! I am just getting over a dislocated patella brought on by running and fencing. One thing I've learned is to strengthen your hip muscles! They keep you balanced when running and will stop your knees from wobbling and going off track. The last thing you want to do is let your patella pop out of it's track because let me tell you that **** is PAINFUL.

    Soreness yes.

    Pain no.

There is no shame in taking time off from it.

YOu can make it worse, or even cause OTHER injuries because you are overcompensating for the one injury.

If you really feel you need to, see if a biking feels OK.
