Chest issues

Hey there!

I have a problem!
I use I be fat! 10 years ago! I lost about 5 stone and have always been self concious and never took my top off! Even when I went down to 9st 6 pounds I would never take my top off as I felt as if my chest was too fleshy!!

But I still looked ok with clothes on! U couldn't tell!

I am now gaining weight through lifting weights and wanting to add muscle.
The problem being I am now seeing my chest get bigger and it amplifies the chest tissue I had before!

So will continuous weight lifting somehow disperse some of the fleshy bits or carry on making them more pronounced!

It isn't a case of dieting or losing weight as I have been there and done that and never got rid of it!

I've seen some guys including pj james who did the documentary " fat and back again "

He had a belly and man boobs and then went back to buff!

So here is hope?

Anyone else have a similar experience ?

It makes wearing tight tops harder! Was fine when I was 9st 6 but now I'm 11st it's causing me doubts whether to continue weight lifting if it's gonna make me more self concious than I was when I was skinny.

loosing body fat is the only way to get rid of that if i understand you correctly. lifting will make your muscles bigger and you will weight more, that is if you eat enough calories to gain weight, got to gain weight to gain muscle. the more muscle you have it seems that fat loss comes faster. but even body builders will pack on fat while gaining muscle. they bulk up for a while and than they work on loosing the fat that they put on. with the correct diet you can gain muscle and not much fat but that is very hard to get right. so most people gain at least some fat while building muscle.

my advice would be this. count your calories, eat a clean diet, and figure out the correct macro nutrients for you, lift weights till you are happy with the size of your muscles, than work on loosing body fat.

or you could burn off the body fat now and than work on putting on muscle later. if you have unwanted chest fat now you are probably not going to loose it while bulking up. it may get worse while bulking. if you can get your diet right and also do some cardio along with your lifting you may be able to do both at the same time but that is not easy.

back when i was lifting to get big i would usually bulk up over the winter and than start burning off the body fat before it got nice out again. and i would usually only need to burn 5-10 lbs depending on how low i wanted my body fat. now i just try to stay in shape,. i got lazy for a while and got up to 24% body fat and lost most of my muscle. over the last 5 months i went down to 12% body fat and packed on some muscle too. when first starting to build muscle you will see the biggest muscle gains during the fist several months. its seems easier to burn fat and pack on muscle at the same time if you are just starting to workout. but generally you are going to do one or the other.

If you switch to incline bench, you'll build up the upper chest and the extra fat(I'm guessing its on the lower area) will look less pronounced. That's the one real issue I have with strong lifts, no lifts that build the upper chest.

Anthony Mychal has a great article on the importance and how to build the upper chest.

The upper chest is where its at for aesthetics.

The lower chest is great for hoisting a lot of weight; however too much focus makes the pecs look like boobs.

I sometimes begin my chest workout with incline dumbbell presses! I work up to pretty heavy poundages to stimulate the most growth in the upper pectorals while my energy and strength its at its highest..

There hasn't been very many guys I've meet through the years that wasn't trying to build a bigger and better chest. Problem is, it's very difficult to develop!! In my opinion, most people do to much, or to much bench. Bench is great for strength, but in my opinion, doesn't build the chest as far as aesthetics and mass.

My go to exercise for upper chest and building a bigger chest is incline DB press. I prefer DB due to my elbow issues. Keep the incline low (15-30 degrees), I find anything more, puts to much emphasis on the shoulders. I also would suggest Dips!!! Great chest exercise. Once in a while, i'll throw in some flys or curls, but not very often.

Same here!! About every 4-6 weeks, i'll start my chest workout with incline DB press, then go on to Bench. Gives me the extra energy for more sets and weight.

Also, this topic is pointless without pictures.

If its fat that is being pronounced on top of the muscle, that will slowly disappear as long as you cut you body fat% after your bulk. I really wouldn't worry about it.

If you are referring to loose skin from possibly loosing weight at very fast rate, I'm sure somebody will chime in that has experienced that.

Post a pic might help OP.
