Activ Trax- Weight workout too light?

So, I joined the YMCA about a month ago because I wanted to start some weight lifting in addition to my cardio and had no idea where to start. They have a software program, Activ Trax, that designs workouts for you on the strength training equipment. I"m on my 12th workout and have yet to feel very sore afterwards. Is this a good thing? lol I mean, I dont want to be crazy sore, but I"m concerned that the workouts this software is creating aren't difficult enough. On some machines, I've been increasing the weights.
Are you usually sore after your typical weight training session? Would you be concerned if you weren't? I don't want to be wasting my time, ya know? Thanks for any input!

Soreness isn't a good indicator of a good workout. Lots of posts have been made on this, so search for "soreness" or "DOMS" if you want to learn more. But basically, a good workout is challenging *during* the workout. If it isn't challenging, simply increase the weight.
Do you use freeweights or machines?0 -
Great, thanks! I'll check out some threads. Didn't know what it search. These workouts are mostly machines, with a little bit of dumbbell work and a few squats, etc. I'm just learning my way around still. Would love any tips!0
