Mio/Crystal Light

I drink a ton of water. We have a water cooler at work so it is non-stop water all day for me. Plain water gets boring, however, and I like to have a flavored drink with dinner or even throughout the day. I don't drink diet pop or coffee or anything else really. I have, however, started adding Mio or Crystal Light to my water to give it an extra bump.
My questions is, has anyone done the research on the health risks of these? I know they have some artificial sweeteners in them but they are so quick and easy.
I should note, I don't really like adding lemon or mint.
I'm just curious.
Thank you!

How I see it is...1. drinking flavored water is 99% better than drinking soda or alcohol. 2. We are all going to die one day anyway so might as well not worry about chemicals and all that other hippie stuff. I drink the Kool-Aid flavor liquid water enhancer btw0

i agree....i think in moderation anything is ok. now don't you go guzzilng that whole bottle of mio.... i am the same as you, water cooler at work and drink primarily that. it gets boring, sometimes you just want flavor. i love the mio cherry blackberry, that's my fave. the crystal light appletini is good, too. i drink unsweetened tea (decaf) alot also.0

LOVE the Mio Sweet Tea0 -
I'm with elbaldwin0525 on this. It is certinitly better then drinking pop. If it just something occasional that you drink, then I wouldn't worry about it. Have you tried picking up an infusion water bottle? My problem with drinking water was always the taste. I don't care for the plain water taste. A coworker got me into drinking infused water. It took me a little while to get use to the taste but I like the taste of real fruit in my water. Sometimes I use lemon, strawberries, oranges, There are lost of different combinations you can do. I just have a water bottle size that has an infuser in the middle. I put fruit inside it in the morning and thenI just keep refilling the water threw out the day. Something you might want to try.0

the peach tea! love that one.
totally different subject but at sonic, the unsweet tea with the blackberry or mango flavor (made with splenda) is so delightful!!0 -

If I had any idea what was in aspertame I wouldn't be so afraid. But what is in that stuff? At least I know where sugar comes from. Beets or cane.
Not that I eat much sugar. Because when ever I eat it I want MORE0 -
I've never tried infused water, I'll have to look into it. Thank you!
I love the Mio Strawberry Watermelon, I have that in my desk drawer right now with the Peach Tea! :-)
They are $.99 at my local Grocery Outlet right now so I kind of stocked up.
I don't drink alcohol or anything else really so I figured it couldn't be too bad. There are much worse choices out there. I also try to drink a couple plain cups between a Mio cup too.
Thank you everyone!0 -
I love them. It's a whole lot better than soda and other juice drinks.0

I've spoken to my doctor about crystal light and he recommended not having more than 2 cups per day. My water intake goal is 1 gallon per day, 2 cups of that is always flavored with crystal light, usually at dinner as I'm tired of plain water all day. Gives me something to look forward. Flavoring with lemon, lime, or mint is helpful also0

Just curious, did he give a reason?
I just jumped on the Mio/liquid flavoring train. I could never mix the powdered Crystal Light enough. But I also love Diet Coke. I'm not super worried about the long-term effects of aspartame. I figure if it really hurt you, we'd have a bunch of people with Tab disease or something.0 -
The sucralose and all of those bad artificial sweeteners ending in -ose are the smalled amounts in crystal light.....so you're ok! I drink it too. Crystal light has the least amount of it - it's like less than 1/2 a percent.0

I won't touch aspartame with a 10 foot pole.
I drink sparkling flavored water & tea a lot. Regular water I usually put in lemon juice & a pinch of stevia. On work days I freeze 1/3rd of a 32oz water bottle in the freezer the night before, & in the morning fill the rest w more water & lemon juice & stevia. All natural & healthy & no calories, and if I finish that I know I've had at least 1/2 of my water goal for the day.0 -
why not use an infuser bottle? something like http://www.amazon.com/Infuser-Water-Bottle-Ounce-Ingredients/dp/B0093F9LW6
you can add any fruit for flavor. It doesn't need to be lemon or mint...this way you get flavor and not artificial sweeteners. There are many different infuser bottles...see if that works for you when you at the office.0 -
When it's your time to go it's your time to go yolo0

I was around when NutraSweet came out and I am still alive with no health issues from it. :laugh:0 -
The fear mongering over artificial sweeteners is way overblown.
The studies that show a link between aspartame and cancer, for example, would require you to drink about 2,083 cans of diet soda... a day to see any significant risk.
If you drank that much water, your biggest risk would actually be water poisoning...
At the rate you're using Mio, you should be quite safe.0 -
Problems from teh chemicalz < problems from diabetes, prematurely bad knees, etc etc. Carry on.0
