How accurate do you find the calorie's burned estimates when you plug in weight, time, and distance? Thanks!

I estimate 100 calories per mile ran.
Of course it depends on alot of things.

    Few articles to read.

I know, I know....seems like it should be more!!

That is how I look at food when I want to eat stuff when I am not hungry.....Is a Candy bar worth almost three miles of running to burn it off?!?!?!?!

I also go roughly with the 100 calories per mile (just a note, that is an average, based on 150lb runners, those who weigh less will burn few calories per mile, those who weigh more will burn over).

I find that MFP is on par with most other running calculators I've seen.

This is also an interesting post that addresses activity tables. For things like running, it is fairly well established

Running is pretty easy to estimate. Most calculators do a really good job of matching with my HRM. I personally have quit wearing my HRM and started using just 100 calories per mile. HOWEVER, this is NOT accurate for everyone and not just based on a person's size. The SPEED with which you run will make a difference. For my typical runs, at my typically slow speed, this is a good approximation. However, during a race, I can burn quite a few more calories per mile because of a quickened pace.

There are other calculators that account a little more for speed, however, it is still fairly accurate.

If I am running 3 miles at a 10 minute mile, I am burning 300 calories in 30 minutes.
If I am running 3 miles at a 7 minute mile, I am burning 300 calories in 21 minutes. Or I burn 400 calories at that pace for 30 minutes.

True. When I race or take a PT test I go much harder and burn more as well.

BUt for the sake of this site and to make a generalization, 100 calories/mile is good.
Plus....I find it better to round up your calorie intake an dround down calories burned and this coincides with

Body weight in pounds * 0.63 * miles run.

    For an 180 pounder, that's 113 calories/mile.
    For a 130 pounder, it's 81 calories/mile.

Speed makes very little difference, unless you slow right down to walking, in which case you cut the numbers in half.
