Triathletes and cyclists only! How many calories burned?

Hi! Ironman triathlete here trying to drop 10lbs to reach race weight. I am 26 year old 5'5" female 135lbs.

I have been starving/ravenous/shaking and trying to figure out why I'm so hungry if my numbers are right.

I don't think it's the food. I think I'm grossly under estimating my exercise calories.

How do you figure out how many calories you burn in a cycling workout? For example today I rode an interval ride in the trainer for 85 minutes with a HR average of 150 (my highest HR I can get to is 170 on the bike at an all out sprint for 2 minutes). I estimated I burned 550 calories. I don't really know where that number comes from but mfp estimates seem really really high to me so I just guess.

I think that's not a good idea anymore haha. Thoughts?

Honestly, when I made the transition from just working out to actually training, I found the TDEE method far easier. It's hard to estimate calories for general workouts...but if you're not grinding, being a little off on your nutrition isn't that big of a deal...being off on your nutrition when you're actually training and needing performance is.

I had to make some small tweaks from what the TDEE calculator I used gave me, but it was a lot easier to dial that in than to try to estimate all of my calories burned from every training bout.
