What is the right process. Is it lengthy? What doctor would you go to for it?

Get your GP to refer you to an allergist. The test consists of a lot of skin pricks on your back that are exposed to known allergens. Then they examine how much swelling you have at the various sites. Takes maybe an hour if I remember correctly.
If you have hayfever you are likely to have a cross allergy to nuts and fruits or stuff that grows on the same trees.0
