two short workout instead of one long one?

Hi, firstly, I'd like to say that I've been recovering from an eating disorder for a while now and am weighed restored. My doctor has given me the green light to workout but only low impact workouts because I've still not gotten my periods back.

I usually do 30 minutes on the stationary bike 4 to 5 times a week. Whenever I workout, I get out of breath so easily and I stop every two minutes. There are times where I've cried while exercising.

I'm not trying to lose weight, just maintain. So I was wondering if I did 15 minutes of cycling in the morning and another 15 in the evening, it would burn the same amount as cycling for 30 minutes one shot? Or does it burn less? I'd prefer to do short workouts instead of long ones, so I don't get too frustrated and upset while exercising.

    Hi!!

I think you could do two workouts....if 30 mins at a go is burning you out....may be you could add 5 mins later on when you enjoy working out and can handle it...listen to the doctor...eat nutritious food and don't stress yourself much...you are doing great!!

I did that for the longest time and it work for me....if you have to break them up but still manage to get in a good workout a day go for it. As times goes on you readjust and maybe get it all done at once. There is no rush to the finish line of a healthy life style.

Read some studies on this a few years ago.
Depends on what you are wanting to accomplish.
If you are working on endurance then the one longer one is better.
but for other things 2 can be just as good, or better.

If your one long workout gets too long and your effort slows way down late in the workout then you are not getting the best out of it and would be better to break it into two workouts, going harder for the full time instead of one longer one when you tucker out at the end.

That was the topic of my weight management class last week. studies showed that breaking up your work out into smaller bouts are just as good as taking it all at once. and it was even better because the good feeling you get with one big workout you get twice so the "good feeling" last longer. so during my day I walk .8 miles three times a day and in the evening I run 6 miles. sometime longer sometimes shorter but still I break up my work out throughout the day so i get the benefits of once huge workout many times in the day. hope that helps.
