Thought I was doing good.... realized I'm not.

I'm watching what I eat at every meal and trying to get cardio at least 30 minutes per day. I've lost 5 pounds since I've started and was feeling pretty good until today, I looked at the calendar and realized I've been doing this for 5 weeks. My goal is to lose 40, at this rate I feel like it's never going to happen. I've never had to diet or exercise before so this is all pretty new to me. Is a pound a week normal?

Yes, and better than some people do. At least you're consistently losing! But don't freak out if you stop losing for a week or two.
40 pounds isn't that much. It will take time, but it sounds like you're doing well so far. Just try to be more patient.0 -
At that rate, you may feel like it's never going to happen, but it will. It just takes a little longer. And the longer it takes to lose it, the better chance you'll have of keeping it off.0

It took a long time to put that weight on and it will take a long time to get it off. That's just how this works. Consider the time in the middle as practice for developing the habits you're going to keep after you've reached your goal. Keep at it. It's worth it.0

Unless you have a huge amount to lose (like 75+ pounds) then 1 pound per week is excellent.0

Yes. Better than normal for a lot of people. You're doing great.0 -
Yep. There's nothing wrong with a pound a week, doing great.0

Wow, thanks for the support! I guess I'll stop beating myself up for it and just be patient.0

Five pounds averages out to one pound a week. You are right on target with your weight loss.0

You're doing great. It's only been 5 weeks which mean you're just starting to get the ball rolling.
I usually don't lose ANYTHING in the first 3 weeks. Your body has to adjust to the changes you're making, and realize you're making changes. Once your body starts figuring out what you're doing, and you continue doing it, your weight will steadily decrease.
Again, you're doing great. Keep it up.0 -
You should add in some friends that are at a healthy weight and maintaining and see what we are doing in our daily diets & workouts , it can be very helpful , you may just need to tweak your meals a bit to see better results0
