I've read so many articles online that says you have to be active for at least 30 minutes everyday to stay fit and prevent chronic diseases. But i'm usually too busy and don't have time for the gym. How do you stay active during the day, besides going to the gym or running?

My co-workers may hate this, but on days when I can't get to the gym, and when it's busy, I get up and walk to their desk. Instead of sending an e-mail/text, it forces me out of my chair. Sure, it's not ten miles or anything, but it does add up. Always take the stairs. If someone calls me and I don't need to sit, I'll stand. Small stuff.

Do you watch any tv? Jog in front of it, or buy a stationary bike and get on it while you watch.

3 days a week I do a set of pushups each hour at work. Been doing it for about 3-4 weeks and it def is helping.

I work long hours at a desk job. I take mini breaks through out the day. One hour I'll do squats, the next hour desk push ups, etc. it's a few minutes at a time but it adds up. I always skip the elevator and take the stairs. I'll go outside at lunch and walk a lap or two around the building.

Most evenings I hop on the exercise bike while I watch a tv program or check in here. I try to fit in extra activity on my days off too, whether it's a walk or yard work, as long as I'm moving.

    I make the time

    + 1

I work on the fifth floor and pretend the building doesn't have elevators. I walk up and down twice a day.

Buy a door hang pull up bar. Every time you walk buy it, do a set till failure.

You can literally just flex your muscles too. Hold a standing full body flex when no ones around.

Why do you have to wait until no one else is around? Why not wait until EVERYONE is around. Everyone.

I have a desk job as well but I do alot of walking...for example instead of taking the short cut to fill up my water bottle I'll take the long way around...walk a long way to the photocopier and printer and even park far away so I'll have to walk to and from my car everyday...I also do stretches at my desk and the good thing is my work encourages it. I even take the long way to the washroom...it all adds up.

I'm slowly (very slowly) transitioning to a standing desk. The jury's still out on that one. I've found that I either hate it (usually because of pain that may be from something other than standing), or I put my head phones on and kinda dance to the music while I'm working. On those good days, my productivity seems to go up quite a bit too. But on the bad days... well, you can guess.
    It's worth trying anyway.

I've also been walking to work (or, I was, until the hip pain started). And when we move to a third floor office in a couple months I'll start taking the stairs.
